Workshop Practices for Rotating Equipment Overhaul

23 – 27 Mar. 2026, Cairo20 – 24 July 2026, Abu Dhabi

COURSE OVERVIEW:

The precision overhaul of rotating equipment in a workshop environment is a fundamental pillar of industrial reliability and asset life extension. This course provides a practical and technical roadmap for the systematic refurbishment of pumps, compressors, and blowers, moving from the initial teardown to final performance verification. Participants will examine the specialized tooling, measurement instruments, and mechanical standards required to restore high-speed machinery to its original design specifications.

The scope of this training focuses on the rigorous application of workshop best practices, including component cleaning, non-destructive testing (NDT), and precision assembly techniques. We will investigate the intricacies of bearing fits, mechanical seal installation, and the critical importance of rotor balancing in minimizing operational vibration. The curriculum covers the documentation and quality control steps necessary to ensure that every overhauled asset meets the highest safety and performance criteria before returning to the field.

Coverage also includes the management of the workshop environment, emphasizing foreign material exclusion (FME), tool calibration, and the safe handling of heavy components. By focusing on the root causes of premature overhaul failure, the course empowers technicians and supervisors to implement high-standard repair protocols. Through this intensive study, attendants will gain the expertise necessary to manage a high-throughput mechanical workshop, delivering reliable repairs that significantly reduce the total cost of ownership for rotating assets.

COURSE OBJECTIVES:

After completion of this course, the participants will be able to:

  1. Define the stages of a standard rotating equipment overhaul workflow.
  2. Execute safe and organized dismantling procedures for complex assemblies.
  3. Utilize precision measurement tools like micrometers, bore gauges, and calipers.
  4. Interpret OEM clearance charts and tolerance specifications accurately.
  5. Perform visual and NDT inspections to identify cracks, erosion, and wear.
  6. Manage the cleaning and surface preparation of internal mechanical parts.
  7. Execute precision bearing installation using induction heaters and press tools.
  8. Install and test mechanical seals according to manufacturer requirements.
  9. Conduct static and dynamic balancing of impellers and rotors.
  10. Apply proper torqueing sequences and fastener tensioning techniques.
  11. Implement a Foreign Material Exclusion (FME) program in the workshop.
  12. Generate detailed "As-Found" and "As-Left" overhaul reports.
  13. Oversee the final shop testing and preservation of refurbished equipment.

TARGET AUDIENCE:

This course is designed for Workshop Technicians, Mechanical Fitters, Overhaul Supervisors, and Maintenance Engineers.

TRAINING COURSE METHODOLOGY:

A highly interactive combination of lectures, discussion sessions, and case studies will be employed to maximise the transfer of information, knowledge, and experience. The course will be intensive, practical, and highly interactive. The sessions will start by raising the most relevant questions and motivating everybody to find the right answers. The attendants will also be encouraged to raise more of their questions and to share in developing the right answers using their analysis and experience. There will also be some indoor experiential activities to enhance the learning experience. Course material will be provided in PowerPoint, with necessary animations, learning videos, and general discussions.

The course participants shall be evaluated before, during, and at the end of the course.

COURSE CERTIFICATE:

National Consultant Centre for Training LLC (NCC) will issue an Attendance Certificate to all participants completing a minimum of 80% of the total attendance time requirement.
