Vendor Management and Technical Evaluation of Rotating Equipment

29 June – 03 July 2026, Abu Dhabi16 – 20 Nov. 2026, Abu Dhabi

COURSE OVERVIEW:

Vendor management and technical evaluation represent the critical intersection between engineering excellence and procurement strategy. This course explores the systematic approach to qualifying, selecting, and managing manufacturers of high-value rotating assets such as compressors, turbines, and specialized pumping systems. Participants will examine the methodologies required to move beyond simple price-based selection, focusing instead on the technical robustness and long-term reliability of the vendor’s engineering solutions.

The scope of this training encompasses the entire lifecycle of the vendor relationship, from the initial pre-qualification and Request for Quotation (RFQ) to the final performance testing and warranty management. We will investigate the criteria for assessing a vendor’s manufacturing capacity, quality control systems, and their adherence to international standards like API and ISO. The curriculum provides a framework for performing detailed technical comparisons of disparate equipment designs, ensuring that the final selection aligns with the plant’s operational requirements and maintenance capabilities.

Coverage also includes the management of technical deviations, the oversight of factory acceptance tests (FAT), and the evaluation of the vendor’s after-sales support infrastructure. By focusing on the mitigation of supply chain risks and the enforcement of technical specifications, the course empowers professionals to build high-performance partnerships with manufacturers. Through this rigorous study, attendants will gain the expertise necessary to lead multidisciplinary evaluation teams and ensure that only the most reliable rotating equipment is integrated into their industrial processes.

COURSE OBJECTIVES:

After completion of this course, the participants will be able to:

  1. Develop a comprehensive vendor pre-qualification framework for rotating equipment.
  2. Formulate technical specifications and data sheets that minimize vendor ambiguity.
  3. Conduct a systematic Technical Bid Evaluation (TBE) for complex machinery.
  4. Normalize competing bids to allow for an equitable technical comparison.
  5. Evaluate vendor quality management systems and adherence to API standards.
  6. Identify and mitigate technical risks associated with new or unproven technology.
  7. Manage the technical clarification process during the procurement phase.
  8. Oversee Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) and verify performance guarantees.
  9. Assess the adequacy of vendor-supplied documentation and spare parts lists.
  10. Audit vendor manufacturing facilities for technical competency and capacity.
  11. Negotiate technical deviations without compromising system integrity.
  12. Establish Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for monitoring vendor performance.
  13. Manage warranty claims and technical support for installed rotating assets.

TARGET AUDIENCE:

This course is designed for Procurement Engineers, Rotating Equipment Engineers, Project Managers, Technical Buyers, and Reliability Specialists involved in capital equipment acquisition.

TRAINING COURSE METHODOLOGY:

A highly interactive combination of lectures, discussion sessions, and case studies will be employed to maximise the transfer of information, knowledge, and experience. The course will be intensive, practical, and highly interactive. The sessions will start by raising the most relevant questions and motivating everybody to find the right answers. The attendants will also be encouraged to raise more of their questions and to share in developing the right answers using their analysis and experience. There will also be some indoor experiential activities to enhance the learning experience. Course material will be provided in PowerPoint, with necessary animations, learning videos, and general discussions.

The course participants shall be evaluated before, during, and at the end of the course.

COURSE CERTIFICATE:

National Consultant Centre for Training LLC (NCC) will issue an Attendance Certificate to all participants completing a minimum of 80% of the total attendance time requirement.
