Pump Overhaul Procedures and Quality Control
| 04 – 08 May 2026, Dubai | 31 Aug. – 04 Sep. 2026, Abu Dhabi |
COURSE OVERVIEW:
The restoration of a centrifugal pump to its original design efficiency requires a meticulous approach to disassembly, inspection, and reassembly. This course provides a technical roadmap for the complete overhaul of industrial pumping units, emphasizing the critical tolerances and fits that define a successful repair. Participants will explore the systematic process of returning a degraded asset to a "like-new" condition, ensuring that every component meets the highest standards of mechanical integrity.
The scope of this training focuses on the practical application of precision measurement and quality control at every stage of the overhaul. We will analyze the inspection criteria for casings, impellers, and shafts, teaching participants how to identify subtle signs of erosion, corrosion, and fatigue that might otherwise go unnoticed. The course details the replacement of wear rings, bearings, and seals, while highlighting the importance of balancing rotating components to eliminate destructive vibration.
Coverage includes the development of rigorous quality control documentation and the implementation of hold points during the assembly process. Attendees will learn how to verify axial float, radial runout, and mechanical seal compression to ensure the unit is ready for reliable service. By mastering these overhaul procedures, participants will be able to extend the mean time between repairs (MTBR) and significantly reduce the total cost of ownership for their plant’s pumping assets.
COURSE OBJECTIVES:
After completion of this course, the participants will be able to:
- Execute a structured disassembly procedure to prevent component damage.
- Utilize precision measuring tools to verify internal clearances and fits.
- Inspect pump casings for wall thinning and internal bypass leakage.
- Assess the structural integrity of shafts using non-destructive testing.
- Determine the correct interference fits for bearings and wear rings.
- Perform dynamic balancing of impellers to ISO 1940 standards.
- Restore critical sealing surfaces to the required flatness and finish.
- Calculate and adjust the axial clearance of open and semi-open impellers.
- Implement a comprehensive quality control plan for overhaul projects.
- Identify the root causes of component wear discovered during teardown.
- Verify the concentricity of the stuffing box relative to the shaft.
- Execute proper fastener torqueing sequences for casing split-lines.
- Prepare detailed overhaul reports including "as-found" and "as-left" data.
- Manage the preservation of overhauled pumps during short-term storage.
TARGET AUDIENCE:
Mechanical Technicians, Millwrights, Workshop Supervisors, Maintenance Engineers, and Quality Control Inspectors involved in the repair and refurbishment of centrifugal pumps.
TRAINING COURSE METHODOLOGY:
A highly interactive combination of lectures, discussion sessions, and case studies will be employed to maximise the transfer of information, knowledge, and experience. The course will be intensive, practical, and highly interactive. The sessions will start by raising the most relevant questions and motivating everybody to find the right answers. The attendants will also be encouraged to raise more of their questions and to share in developing the right answers using their analysis and experience. There will also be some indoor experiential activities to enhance the learning experience. Course material will be provided in PowerPoint, with necessary animations, learning videos, and general discussions.
The course participants shall be evaluated before, during, and at the end of the course.
COURSE CERTIFICATE:
National Consultant Centre for Training LLC (NCC) will issue an Attendance Certificate to all participants completing a minimum of 80% of the total attendance time requirement.
