Mastering Workshop Equipment Operation and Upkeep

26 – 30 Jan. 2026, Dubai21 – 25 Dec. 2026, Abu Dhabi

COURSE OVERVIEW:

Mastering workshop equipment operation and upkeep is fundamental to the support of industrial maintenance and the precision fabrication of mechanical components. This course provides technicians and workshop supervisors with the essential skills required to operate stationary power tools and machining equipment safely and accurately. Participants will explore the mechanical principles of metal cutting, forming, and joining, ensuring that the workshop remains a reliable hub for facility repairs.

The scope of this training encompasses a wide array of equipment, including lathes, milling machines, drill presses, grinders, and hydraulic presses. Coverage includes the selection of cutting tools, the calculation of speeds and feeds, and the use of precision measurement instruments such as micrometers and vernier calipers. Emphasis is placed on the technical "upkeep" aspect, detailing the lubrication, alignment, and preventive maintenance required to keep workshop machinery in peak condition.

Furthermore, the course addresses the critical safety protocols and organizational standards required in a professional industrial workshop. Trainees will explore the implementation of the "5S" methodology, the importance of machine guarding, and the management of hazardous materials and waste. By mastering both the operation and the maintenance of these tools, participants can improve the quality of repaired parts, reduce equipment downtime, and foster a culture of technical excellence and workplace safety.

COURSE OBJECTIVES:

After completion of this course, the participants will be able to:

  • Operate manual lathes and milling machines for precision component repair.
  • Perform accurate drilling, reaming, and tapping operations using a drill press.
  • Execute safe and precise grinding operations for tool sharpening and finishing.
  • Select the correct cutting tools and inserts based on workpiece metallurgy.
  • Calculate optimal cutting speeds and feed rates for various materials.
  • Utilize precision measuring instruments to verify machining tolerances.
  • Implement a structured preventive maintenance plan for workshop equipment.
  • Diagnose and correct common machine tool misalignments and wear issues.
  • Apply effective lubrication schedules to machine slides, gears, and spindles.
  • Manage workshop safety through proper machine guarding and PPE use.
  • Execute basic hydraulic press operations for bearing removal and assembly.
  • Organize the workshop using 5S principles to improve efficiency and safety.
  • Document maintenance activities and tool calibration records accurately.

TARGET AUDIENCE:

This course is designed for Workshop Technicians, Machinists, Maintenance Foremen, and Mechanical Fitters responsible for component repair and fabrication in an industrial environment.

TRAINING COURSE METHODOLOGY:

A highly interactive combination of lectures, discussion sessions, and case studies will be employed to maximise the transfer of information, knowledge, and experience. The course will be intensive, practical, and highly interactive. The sessions will start by raising the most relevant questions and motivating everybody to find the right answers. The attendants will also be encouraged to raise more of their questions and to share in developing the right answers using their analysis and experience. There will also be some indoor experiential activities to enhance the learning experience. Course material will be provided in PowerPoint, with necessary animations, learning videos, and general discussions.

The course participants shall be evaluated before, during, and at the end of the course.

COURSE CERTIFICATE:

National Consultant Centre for Training LLC (NCC) will issue an Attendance Certificate to all participants completing a minimum of 80% of the total attendance time requirement.
