Maintenance Planning and Scheduling for Mechanical Maintenance Teams

15 – 19 June 2026, Abu Dhabi02 – 06 Nov. 2026, Cairo

COURSE OVERVIEW:

Maintenance planning and scheduling is the core administrative engine that ensures mechanical maintenance teams are utilized efficiently and effectively. This course provides a detailed framework for separating the "What and How" (Planning) from the "When" (Scheduling). Participants will explore the discipline required to prepare job packages that minimize delays, ensure safety, and provide all necessary resources before the work starts.

The scope of this training encompasses the entire work management cycle, from the initial work request to the final closure of the work order. Coverage includes the development of detailed job plans, including step-by-step procedures, required tools, spare parts lists, and specialized labor requirements. Emphasis is placed on the coordination between operations and maintenance to ensure that equipment is available and prepared for work at the scheduled time.

Furthermore, the course addresses the technical tools and meetings necessary to manage a high-functioning maintenance department. Trainees will learn how to manage backlogs, prioritize work based on asset criticality, and conduct effective weekly scheduling meetings. By implementing the planning and scheduling best practices taught in this course, organizations can significantly increase their "wrench time," reduce emergency work, and improve the overall reliability of their mechanical assets.

COURSE OBJECTIVES:

After completion of this course, the participants will be able to:

  • Distinguish between the distinct roles of the Planner and the Scheduler.
  • Manage the work flow process from request to completion.
  • Prioritize maintenance work orders using a criticality-based ranking system.
  • Create comprehensive job plans with detailed task steps and safety requirements.
  • Estimate labor hours and material costs for mechanical tasks accurately.
  • Build a weekly maintenance schedule that aligns with operational needs.
  • Utilize the CMMS as a central tool for planning and data management.
  • Lead a productive weekly scheduling meeting between operations and maintenance.
  • Measure and improve "Wrench Time" through better resource coordination.
  • Manage the maintenance backlog to prevent excessive work buildup.
  • Coordinate the kitting and staging of spare parts for planned jobs.
  • Apply schedule compliance metrics to identify execution bottlenecks.
  • Plan for minor outages and equipment shutdowns efficiently.

TARGET AUDIENCE:
