Sample Management Workshop: Safety, Preparation, and Chain of Custody

08 – 12 June 2026, Dubai28 Sep. – 02 Oct. 2026, Abu Dhabi

COURSE OVERVIEW:

The meaning of this course lies in the protection of the "Analytical Integrity" of the laboratory through the rigorous control of samples from the moment of collection to the final disposal. A laboratory result is only as valid as the sample it represents; any failure in management during the pre-analytical phase renders the most sophisticated instrumentation useless. This program provides the foundational and practical framework needed to ensure that samples are handled safely, prepared correctly, and tracked with indisputable legal traceability.

The scope of the training focuses on the physical and administrative lifecycle of the sample, including reception, labeling, storage, and processing. It addresses the critical requirements for maintaining a "Chain of Custody" (CoC) that satisfies both technical standards and legal evidentiary requirements. Participants will explore the diverse safety hazards associated with different sample matrices, from volatile chemicals to biological pathogens, and the implementation of effective "Sample Preparation" protocols to ensure homogeneity.

The coverage includes a detailed investigation into the use of LIMS (Laboratory Information Management Systems) for sample tracking, the management of "Retained Samples," and the protocols for handling "Compromised" or "Non-conforming" samples. The course emphasizes the importance of "Aseptic Technique," the prevention of "Cross-Contamination," and the safe disposal of hazardous materials. By mastering these management protocols, participants will be able to minimize pre-analytical errors, protect staff from exposure, and ensure the total reliability of laboratory data.

COURSE OBJECTIVES:

After completion of this course, the participants will be able to:

  • Define the core principles of professional sample management.
  • Implement a robust "Chain of Custody" protocol for all samples.
  • Identify safety hazards associated with various sample matrices.
  • Execute "Sample Reception" procedures and identify non-conformities.
  • Utilize LIMS and barcoding systems for high-precision tracking.
  • Design "Sample Storage" plans based on stability and temperature.
  • Perform "Sub-sampling" and "Homogenization" without introducing bias.
  • Prevent "Cross-Contamination" during the preparation phase.
  • Manage "Retained Samples" for future reference or legal challenges.
  • Execute the "Safe Disposal" of hazardous and biological samples.
  • Document "Sample Deviations" and their impact on final results.
  • Lead a "Sample Management Audit" within the laboratory facility.

TARGET AUDIENCE:

This course is intended for Laboratory Technicians, Sample Coordinators, Field Samplers, and Quality Control Analysts.

TRAINING COURSE METHODOLOGY:

A highly interactive combination of lectures, discussion sessions, and case studies will be employed to maximize the transfer of information, knowledge, and experience. The course will be intensive, practical, and highly interactive. The sessions will start by raising the most relevant questions and motivating everybody to find the right answers. The attendants will also be encouraged to raise more of their questions and to share in developing the right answers using their analysis and experience. There will also be some indoor experiential activities to enhance the learning experience. Course material will be provided in PowerPoint, with necessary animations, learning videos, and general discussions.

The course participants shall be evaluated before, during, and at the end of the course.

COURSE CERTIFICATE:

National Consultant Centre for Training LLC (NCC) will issue an Attendance Certificate to all participants completing a minimum of 80% of the total attendance time requirement.
