Refinery Lab Excellence: Petroleum and Petroleum Products Analysis
| 27 Apr. – 01 May 2026, Abu Dhabi | 24 – 28 Aug. 2026, Abu Dhabi |
COURSE OVERVIEW:
The meaning of this course lies in the professional elevation of the refinery laboratory from a support service to a strategic driver of profitability and safety. In the competitive downstream environment, the "Refinery Lab" is the gatekeeper of product value, ensuring that every gallon of fuel meets stringent international specifications before leaving the terminal. This program provides the advanced technical and managerial framework needed to lead a world-class petroleum testing facility that operates with absolute precision and speed.
The scope of the training focuses on the advanced characterization of "Intermediate Streams" and "Finished Products" using the most recent ASTM and IP technologies. It addresses the technical management of "Round-the-Clock" analytical operations, the implementation of "Laboratory Automation," and the optimization of "Turnaround Time" (TAT). Participants will explore the role of the laboratory in "Process Troubleshooting," the characterization of "Crude Assays," and the validation of "Rapid/Online" analytical data.
The coverage includes a comprehensive investigation into the management of "Trace Contaminants" (Sulfur, Chlorine, Metals), the evaluation of "Fuel Stability," and the implementation of "ISO 17025" in a refinery context. The course emphasizes the reduction of "Measurement Risk" in commercial custody transfers and the leadership of a high-performance scientific team. By mastering these excellence protocols, participants will be able to maximize refinery yields, prevent costly "Off-Spec" incidents, and ensure the highest standards of petroleum product integrity.
COURSE OBJECTIVES:
After completion of this course, the participants will be able to:
- Define the core "Key Performance Indicators" (KPIs) of a refinery lab.
- Master Advanced Petroleum Testing (DHA, SimDist, and Trace Sulfur).
- Utilize "Crude Assay" data to optimize refinery feedstocks.
- Manage "High-Volume" testing workflows without compromising quality.
- Implement "Laboratory Automation" to reduce human error and TAT.
- Validate "Alternative Test Methods" for rapid process control.
- Conduct "Root Cause Analysis" for off-specification fuel batches.
- Manage "Metrological Traceability" for all refinery lab assets.
- Audit the "Sampling and Inspection" process for custody transfer.
- Utilize "Statistical Process Control" (SPC) for monitoring lab health.
- Prepare the refinery lab for "ISO 17025" accreditation and audits.
- Lead a culture of "Safety and Analytical Excellence" in the facility.
TARGET AUDIENCE:
This course is intended for Refinery Laboratory Managers, Senior Petroleum Chemists, Quality Control Leads, and Production Engineers.
TRAINING COURSE METHODOLOGY:
A highly interactive combination of lectures, discussion sessions, and case studies will be employed to maximize the transfer of information, knowledge, and experience. The course will be intensive, practical, and highly interactive. The sessions will start by raising the most relevant questions and motivating everybody to find the right answers. The attendants will also be encouraged to raise more of their questions and to share in developing the right answers using their analysis and experience. There will also be some indoor experiential activities to enhance the learning experience. Course material will be provided in PowerPoint, with necessary animations, learning videos, and general discussions.
The course participants shall be evaluated before, during, and at the end of the course.
COURSE CERTIFICATE:
National Consultant Centre for Training LLC (NCC) will issue an Attendance Certificate to all participants completing a minimum of 80% of the total attendance time requirement.
