Lean Laboratory Management: Achieving Quality Control Excellence

06 – 10 Apr. 2026, Cairo31 Aug. – 04 Sep. 2026, Abu Dhabi

COURSE OVERVIEW:

The meaning of this course lies in the optimization of laboratory workflows to eliminate waste while simultaneously enhancing the precision of quality control. In a modern analytical environment, Lean is not just about speed; it is about the systematic reduction of non-value-added activities that lead to errors, delays, and high operational costs. This program provides the tools to transform a traditional "push" laboratory into a high-efficiency "pull" system that delivers accurate results exactly when the customer needs them.

The scope of the training focuses on the application of Lean Six Sigma principles specifically adapted for the unique constraints of the laboratory. It addresses the 5S methodology for laboratory organization, Value Stream Mapping (VSM) for analytical processes, and the implementation of visual management tools. Participants will explore how to balance sample throughput with the rigorous demands of quality control, ensuring that "Lean" never compromises the scientific integrity or the regulatory compliance of the data produced.

The coverage includes a deep investigation into the reduction of laboratory lead times, the management of reagent inventory using Kanban, and the standardization of work processes. The course emphasizes the importance of "Right First Time" (RFT) metrics and the use of Kaizen events to solve chronic technical bottlenecks. By mastering these Lean management protocols, participants will be able to improve laboratory capacity, reduce the cost per sample, and create a more sustainable and less stressful working environment for scientific staff.

COURSE OBJECTIVES:

After completion of this course, the participants will be able to:

  • Define the core concepts of Lean and Six Sigma in a laboratory setting.
  • Identify the eight types of waste (DOWNTIME) in analytical workflows.
  • Create a Value Stream Map (VSM) for a laboratory test process.
  • Implement 5S to organize chemicals, glassware, and workstations.
  • Utilize Visual Management tools to track sample status and KPIs.
  • Standardize laboratory procedures to ensure "Right First Time" results.
  • Apply Kanban systems for the management of laboratory consumables.
  • Optimize laboratory layouts to minimize movement and transport waste.
  • Conduct a Kaizen event to resolve a specific laboratory bottleneck.
  • Utilize root cause analysis tools like the "5 Whys" and "Fishbone."
  • Calculate laboratory capacity and optimize analyst scheduling.
  • Sustain a culture of continuous improvement within the scientific team.

TARGET AUDIENCE:

This course is intended for Laboratory Managers, Quality Control Supervisors, Team Leaders, and Operations Managers in testing and research facilities.

TRAINING COURSE METHODOLOGY:

A highly interactive combination of lectures, discussion sessions, and case studies will be employed to maximize the transfer of information, knowledge, and experience. The course will be intensive, practical, and highly interactive. The sessions will start by raising the most relevant questions and motivating everybody to find the right answers. The attendants will also be encouraged to raise more of their questions and to share in developing the right answers using their analysis and experience. There will also be some indoor experiential activities to enhance the learning experience. Course material will be provided in PowerPoint, with necessary animations, learning videos, and general discussions.

The course participants shall be evaluated before, during, and at the end of the course.

COURSE CERTIFICATE:

National Consultant Centre for Training LLC (NCC) will issue an Attendance Certificate to all participants completing a minimum of 80% of the total attendance time requirement.
