Implementing Quality Environmental Laboratory Management (ISO 17025)
| 15 – 19 June 2026, Abu Dhabi | 07 – 11 Sep. 2026, Abu Dhabi |
COURSE OVERVIEW:
The meaning of this course lies in the systematic alignment of environmental testing operations with the global gold standard for technical competence. In a world where environmental data drives multi-billion-dollar policy decisions and legal actions, the credibility of the laboratory is paramount. This program provides the framework for building a quality management system that ensures data is consistently accurate, traceable, and internationally recognized.
The scope of the training addresses the dual requirements of ISO 17025:2017—management efficiency and technical excellence. It covers the practical implementation of impartiality, confidentiality, and risk-based thinking within the context of air, water, and soil analysis. Participants will explore how to document complex environmental workflows, manage the competency of technical staff, and ensure that measurement equipment is calibrated and fit for purpose.
The coverage includes a comprehensive investigation into method validation, measurement uncertainty, and the management of internal audits. The course emphasizes the importance of the "Corrective Action" (CAPA) process and participation in proficiency testing schemes to prove analytical capability. By mastering these quality management protocols, participants will be able to lead their laboratory through the accreditation process and maintain a robust culture of quality that withstands external scrutiny.
COURSE OBJECTIVES:
After completion of this course, the participants will be able to:
- Define the structural requirements of the ISO 17025:2017 standard.
- Implement a robust document and record control system.
- Apply "Risk-Based Thinking" to identify threats to data quality.
- Manage laboratory staff competency and training records.
- Develop SOPs for environmental sampling and analytical testing.
- Ensure metrological traceability of all laboratory measurements.
- Execute method validation and verification for environmental tests.
- Calculate and report measurement uncertainty for chemical results.
- Lead internal audits and manage technical assessments.
- Implement the CAPA process to resolve analytical non-conformances.
- Manage proficiency testing (PT) programs and evaluate results.
- Prepare the laboratory for a successful accreditation body assessment.
TARGET AUDIENCE:
This course is intended for Quality Managers, Laboratory Directors, Environmental Scientists, and Technical Leads responsible for ISO 17025 compliance.
TRAINING COURSE METHODOLOGY:
A highly interactive combination of lectures, discussion sessions, and case studies will be employed to maximize the transfer of information, knowledge, and experience. The course will be intensive, practical, and highly interactive. The sessions will start by raising the most relevant questions and motivating everybody to find the right answers. The attendants will also be encouraged to raise more of their questions and to share in developing the right answers using their analysis and experience. There will also be some indoor experiential activities to enhance the learning experience. Course material will be provided in PowerPoint, with necessary animations, learning videos, and general discussions.
The course participants shall be evaluated before, during, and at the end of the course.
