Hazardous Materials Management: Chemical Handling, Storage, and Safety
| 18 – 22 May 2026, Abu Dhabi | 17 – 21 Aug. 2026, Dubai |
COURSE OVERVIEW:
The meaning of this course lies in the critical protection of life, property, and the environment through the systematic management of hazardous substances. In the modern laboratory or industrial facility, the presence of volatile, corrosive, and toxic materials is a daily reality that necessitates a sophisticated safety infrastructure. This program provides the essential skills required to identify chemical hazards and implement the control measures necessary to prevent catastrophic accidents and long-term health complications.
The scope of the training focuses on the lifecycle of hazardous materials, from procurement and initial reception to final disposal as hazardous waste. It covers the global standards for hazard communication, including the interpretation of Safety Data Sheets (SDS) and the application of GHS labeling requirements. Participants will explore the technical requirements for chemical compatibility, the engineering of safe storage environments, and the selection of personal protective equipment (PPE) tailored to specific chemical risks.
The coverage includes comprehensive training on spill response protocols, emergency decontamination procedures, and the regulatory mandates governing the transport of dangerous goods. The course emphasizes the development of a proactive safety culture where hazard identification and risk assessment are integrated into every task. By mastering these management protocols, participants will be able to ensure a workplace that is compliant with international safety standards and resilient against the risks associated with hazardous chemicals.
COURSE OBJECTIVES:
After completion of this course, the participants will be able to:
- Identify chemical hazards using the Global Harmonized System (GHS).
- Interpret technical safety data from Safety Data Sheets (SDS).
- Implement safe chemical handling and transfer techniques.
- Design a chemical storage plan based on compatibility principles.
- Select and maintain appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
- Execute a rapid and effective chemical spill response protocol.
- Conduct comprehensive risk assessments for new chemical processes.
- Manage the safe disposal of various hazardous waste streams.
- Understand the legal requirements for the transport of dangerous goods.
- Implement proper ventilation and engineering controls for vapors.
- Perform emergency eye-wash and safety shower procedures.
- Foster a culture of proactive hazard reporting and safety leadership.
TARGET AUDIENCE:
This course is intended for Laboratory Technicians, Warehouse Personnel, Safety Officers, and any staff responsible for the handling and management of chemicals.
TRAINING COURSE METHODOLOGY:
A highly interactive combination of lectures, discussion sessions, and case studies will be employed to maximize the transfer of information, knowledge, and experience. The course will be intensive, practical, and highly interactive. The sessions will start by raising the most relevant questions and motivating everybody to find the right answers. The attendants will also be encouraged to raise more of their questions and to share in developing the right answers using their analysis and experience. There will also be some indoor experiential activities to enhance the learning experience. Course material will be provided in PowerPoint, with necessary animations, learning videos, and general discussions.
The course participants shall be evaluated before, during, and at the end of the course.
COURSE CERTIFICATE:
National Consultant Centre for Training LLC (NCC) will issue an Attendance Certificate to all participants completing a minimum of 80% of the total attendance time requirement.
