Digital Lab Integration: LIMS Selection and Information System Management

27 Apr. – 01 May 2026, Abu Dhabi24 – 28 Aug. 2026, Abu Dhabi

COURSE OVERVIEW:

The meaning of this course lies in the strategic orchestration of digital ecosystems to replace fragmented, paper-based laboratory workflows. In the modern analytical environment, a Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) is no longer an optional luxury but the central nervous system of data operations. This program provides the roadmap for selecting and integrating software that harmonizes sample tracking, instrument interfacing, and regulatory reporting into a single, cohesive architecture.

The scope of the training encompasses the entire software acquisition lifecycle, beginning with a rigorous needs assessment and the drafting of functional requirement specifications. It addresses the technical complexities of connecting diverse analytical hardware to a centralized database, ensuring seamless data transfer without manual transcription errors. Participants will explore the differences between on-premise, cloud-hosted, and Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) models to determine the best fit for their organizational infrastructure and budget.

The coverage includes a deep investigation into the management of "Big Data" in the lab, including the implementation of Scientific Data Management Systems (SDMS) and Electronic Laboratory Notebooks (ELN). The course emphasizes the importance of user acceptance testing, change management, and the long-term maintenance of system integrity. By mastering these integration strategies, laboratory leaders can significantly increase throughput, reduce the cost of compliance, and provide real-time business intelligence to stakeholders.

COURSE OBJECTIVES:

After completion of this course, the participants will be able to:

  • Define the core functional requirements for a modern LIMS environment.
  • Execute a comprehensive vendor evaluation and selection process.
  • Map laboratory workflows to identify bottlenecks suitable for digitalization.
  • Design a data integration strategy for connecting analytical instruments.
  • Implement robust user access controls and role-based permissions.
  • Navigate the complexities of LIMS validation according to GAMP 5.
  • Manage the transition from paper-based records to Electronic Notebooks.
  • Utilize LIMS data for advanced trend analysis and KPI reporting.
  • Evaluate the security and compliance risks of cloud-based lab systems.
  • Develop a project management plan for system implementation and rollout.
  • Formulate training programs to ensure high user adoption rates.
  • Design a disaster recovery and data archival plan for the information system.

TARGET AUDIENCE:

This course is intended for Laboratory Managers, IT Professionals, Quality Assurance Officers, LIMS Administrators, and Project Managers involved in laboratory digital transformation.

TRAINING COURSE METHODOLOGY:

A highly interactive combination of lectures, discussion sessions, and case studies will be employed to maximize the transfer of information, knowledge, and experience. The course will be intensive, practical, and highly interactive. The sessions will start by raising the most relevant questions and motivating everybody to find the right answers. The attendants will also be encouraged to raise more of their questions and to share in developing the right answers using their analysis and experience. There will also be some indoor experiential activities to enhance the learning experience. Course material will be provided in PowerPoint, with necessary animations, learning videos, and general discussions.

The course participants shall be evaluated before, during, and at the end of the course.

COURSE CERTIFICATE:

National Consultant Centre for Training LLC (NCC) will issue an Attendance Certificate to all participants completing a minimum of 80% of the total attendance time requirement.
