Comprehensive Water Analysis: Hydro-Chemistry and Sediment Testing
| 26 – 30 Jan. 2026, Dubai | 21 – 25 Dec. 2026, Abu Dhabi |
COURSE OVERVIEW:
The meaning of this course lies in the critical assessment of water quality as a vital resource for industry, life, and environmental health. Water analysis is a multi-disciplinary challenge that requires an understanding of the chemical, physical, and biological interactions between the aqueous phase and its surrounding sediments. This course provides the technical expertise to evaluate the "health" of water systems, from pristine groundwater to heavily impacted industrial effluents.
The scope of the training involves a deep dive into the inorganic and organic constituents of water, as well as the specialized techniques for sediment characterization. It covers the chemistry of dissolved ions, the measurement of nutrient loads, and the detection of trace heavy metals. By integrating sediment analysis—where many pollutants sequester—participants will gain a holistic view of the hydro-chemical environment, allowing for more accurate risk assessments and remediation planning.
The coverage includes the latest instrumental methods such as Ion Chromatography (IC), ICP-MS, and advanced spectrophotometry. Participants will learn how to interpret complex hydro-chemical data, calculate ion balances, and conduct specialized tests for sediment toxicity and grain size distribution. This course ensures that laboratory professionals can provide comprehensive data that meets international drinking water standards and environmental discharge regulations.
COURSE OBJECTIVES:
After completion of this course, the participants will be able to:
- Interpret the chemical characteristics of various water sources.
- Execute precise measurements of pH, Conductivity, and Alkalinity.
- Analyze major anions and cations using Ion Chromatography (IC).
- Quantify nutrient levels (Nitrogen and Phosphorus) in aqueous matrices.
- Perform trace metal analysis using Atomic Spectroscopy (ICP/AAS).
- Conduct physical and chemical characterization of aquatic sediments.
- Calculate and validate Ion Balance for hydro-chemical reports.
- Implement advanced sampling techniques for water and bottom sediments.
- Evaluate the toxicity and bioavailability of pollutants in sediments.
- Troubleshoot matrix interferences in saline and brackish water analysis.
- Utilize specialized software for geochemical modeling and data mapping.
- Comply with international regulatory standards (EPA, WHO, and ISO).
TARGET AUDIENCE:
This course is intended for Environmental Scientists, Hydrologists, Water Quality Technicians, Civil Engineers, and Laboratory Chemists working in water treatment and environmental monitoring.
TRAINING COURSE METHODOLOGY:
A highly interactive combination of lectures, discussion sessions, and case studies will be employed to maximize the transfer of information, knowledge, and experience. The course will be intensive, practical, and highly interactive. The sessions will start by raising the most relevant questions and motivating everybody to find the right answers. The attendants will also be encouraged to raise more of their questions and to share in developing the right answers using their analysis and experience. There will also be some indoor experiential activities to enhance the learning experience. Course material will be provided in PowerPoint, with necessary animations, learning videos, and general discussions.
The course participants shall be evaluated before, during, and at the end of the course.
COURSE CERTIFICATE:
National Consultant Centre for Training LLC (NCC) will issue an Attendance Certificate to all participants completing a minimum of 80% of the total attendance time requirement.
