Advanced Analytical Chemistry for Lab Technicians (Oil & Gas)
| 12 – 16 Jan. 2026, Abu Dhabi | 13 – 17 July 2026, Dubai |
COURSE OVERVIEW:
The meaning of this course is rooted in the specialized application of chemical principles to the complex hydrocarbon matrices found within the upstream and downstream sectors. It provides laboratory technicians with the high-level theoretical knowledge required to understand the molecular behavior of crude oil, natural gas, and refined products during sophisticated testing. By mastering these principles, technicians move beyond rote execution of tasks to become analytical problem solvers capable of identifying chemical anomalies.
The scope of the training encompasses the full spectrum of petroleum chemistry, from the characterization of heavy ends and asphaltenes to the trace analysis of impurities like sulfur and nitrogen. It details the chemistry behind standardized ASTM and IP test methods, ensuring that participants understand why specific reagents and conditions are used. This comprehensive approach ensures that the laboratory output meets the rigorous quality and safety demands of the international oil and gas market.
The coverage includes advanced titration techniques, the chemistry of corrosion inhibitors, and the behavior of catalysts in refining processes. Participants will explore the analytical challenges of produced water, the thermodynamics of phase behavior in PVT analysis, and the chemical signatures of reservoir fluids. By the end of the program, technicians will be equipped to manage complex chemical reagents, validate chemical data, and contribute to the optimization of refinery and production operations.
COURSE OBJECTIVES:
After completion of this course, the participants will be able to:
- Analyze the chemical composition of crude oil and its various fractional components.
- Execute advanced potentiometric titrations for Total Acid Number and Total Base Number.
- Interpret the chemical mechanisms of sulfur and nitrogen removal during refining.
- Evaluate the properties of drilling fluids and their chemical interactions with formations.
- Apply stoichiometry to calculate complex chemical concentrations in petroleum samples.
- Demonstrate proficiency in the chemical analysis of produced and injection water.
- Characterize the chemical structure and behavior of asphaltenes and waxes.
- Validate the purity of chemical additives used in oilfield applications.
- Conduct precise chemical assessments of lubricant performance and oxidation stability.
- Implement advanced safety protocols for handling hazardous petroleum chemicals.
- Troubleshoot chemical interference issues in complex hydrocarbon matrices.
- Document chemical analytical results with high precision and technical accuracy.
TARGET AUDIENCE:
This course is designed for Laboratory Technicians, Chemists, Chemical Engineers, and Quality Control Analysts working in oil refineries, petrochemical plants, and upstream production laboratories who seek to enhance their technical chemical expertise.
TRAINING COURSE METHODOLOGY:
A highly interactive combination of lectures, discussion sessions, and case studies will be employed to maximize the transfer of information, knowledge, and experience. The course will be intensive, practical, and highly interactive. The sessions will start by raising the most relevant questions and motivating everybody to find the right answers. The attendants will also be encouraged to raise more of their questions and to share in developing the right answers using their analysis and experience. There will also be some indoor experiential activities to enhance the learning experience. Course material will be provided in PowerPoint, with necessary animations, learning videos, and general discussions.
The course participants shall be evaluated before, during, and at the end of the course.
COURSE CERTIFICATE:
National Consultant Centre for Training LLC (NCC) will issue an Attendance Certificate to all participants completing a minimum of 80% of the total attendance time requirement.
