Wellhead Control System: Operations and Maintenance

05 – 09 Jan. 2026, Abu Dhabi28 Sep. – 02 Oct. 2026, Abu Dhabi

COURSE OVERVIEW:

The purpose of this course is to provide a comprehensive technical understanding of Wellhead Control Panels (WHCP) and their critical role in oil and gas production. A WHCP serves as the primary interface for managing the safety valves that protect the well, providing the hydraulic and pneumatic power required to operate Sub-surface Safety Valves (SSSV) and Surface Safety Valves (SSV). This program focuses on the technical operation of these integrated panels in both onshore and offshore environments.

The scope of this training encompasses the mechanical, hydraulic, and electronic components that constitute a robust wellhead control strategy. Participants will explore the mechanics of high-pressure hydraulic pumps, reservoirs, and the logic circuits used for Emergency Shutdown (ESD) and Fire and Gas (F&G) triggers. The curriculum is specifically designed to address the challenges of maintaining high-integrity pressure control in remote, harsh, and unmanned locations.

Coverage includes the practical aspects of hydraulic fluid management, valve stroking, and the troubleshooting of pneumatic logic circuits. Attendees will learn how to perform routine maintenance on accumulators, manage pressure set-points for safety interlocks, and ensure the reliability of the "fusible loop" fire detection system. By focusing on the practical "hands-on" operations of the WHCP, the course ensures that participants can sustain the critical safety barrier that protects the well and the environment.

COURSE OBJECTIVES:

After completion of this course, the participants will be able to:

  • Analyze the functional architecture of a Wellhead Control Panel (WHCP).
  • Identify the roles of SSSV, SSV, and Wing Valves in well safety.
  • Understand the principles of High and Low Pressure Hydraulic systems.
  • Execute professional maintenance on air-driven hydraulic pumps.
  • Manage Hydraulic Accumulators and Nitrogen pre-charge levels.
  • Troubleshoot Pneumatic Logic Circuits and "Fusible Loop" systems.
  • Configure High/Low pressure Pilot Valves and safety interlocks.
  • Perform "Sequence of Closure" testing for Emergency Shutdown.
  • Identify and repair leaks in high-pressure hydraulic tubing and fittings.
  • Manage Hydraulic Fluid cleanliness and filtration standards.
  • Interpret WHCP P&IDs and Hydraulic Schematic Diagrams.
  • Document maintenance activities and safety valve performance tests.

TARGET AUDIENCE:

This course is intended for Wellhead Technicians, Production Operators, Maintenance Engineers, and Offshore Field Staff.

TRAINING COURSE METHODOLOGY:

A highly interactive combination of lectures, discussion sessions, and case studies will be employed to maximize the transfer of information, knowledge, and experience. The course will be intensive, practical, and highly interactive. The sessions will start by raising the most relevant questions and motivating everybody to find the right answers. The attendants will also be encouraged to raise more of their questions and to share in developing the right answers using their analysis and experience. There will also be some indoor experiential activities to enhance the learning experience. Course material will be provided in PowerPoint, with necessary animations, learning videos, and general discussions.

The course participants shall be evaluated before, during, and at the end of the course.

COURSE CERTIFICATE:

National Consultant Centre for Training LLC (NCC) will issue an Attendance Certificate to all participants completing a minimum of 80% of the total attendance time requirement.
