SCADA Systems: Application and Practical Design
| 02 – 06 Feb. 2026, Dubai | 23 – 27 Nov. 2026, Abu Dhabi |
COURSE OVERVIEW:
The purpose of this course is to provide a comprehensive technical understanding of Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems and their application in modern industrial environments. SCADA serves as the centralized interface that allows operators to monitor and control geographically dispersed assets, such as pipelines, power grids, and water treatment plants. This program focuses on the technical architecture that enables real-time data collection from remote sites.
The scope of this training encompasses the integration of Remote Terminal Units (RTUs), Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs), and human-machine interfaces (HMIs) into a unified network. Participants will explore the diverse communication mediums used in SCADA, including radio telemetry, cellular, and fiber optics, alongside the specialized protocols like DNP3 and Modbus. The curriculum is specifically designed to address the engineering challenges of system scalability, data historization, and alarm management.
Coverage includes the practical aspects of HMI design, database configuration, and the implementation of robust cybersecurity measures for critical infrastructure. Attendees will learn how to troubleshoot communication bottlenecks, manage remote alarms, and ensure high availability through redundant server architectures. By focusing on practical design and application, the course ensures that participants can manage the large-scale monitoring systems that are vital to national infrastructure and industrial productivity.
COURSE OBJECTIVES:
After completion of this course, the participants will be able to:
- Analyze the components and architecture of a SCADA system.
- Differentiate between SCADA, DCS, and PLC-based control.
- Configure Remote Terminal Units (RTUs) for data acquisition.
- Utilize Modbus, DNP3, and MQTT protocols for remote telemetry.
- Design high-performance HMI screens for operator situational awareness.
- Implement centralized alarm management and notification systems.
- Configure SCADA historians for long-term data storage and trending.
- Evaluate wireless and wired communication options for remote sites.
- Implement cybersecurity best practices following the Purdue Model.
- Troubleshoot communication failures and data latency issues.
- Design redundant SCADA server and network architectures.
- Document SCADA tag databases and system configurations.
TARGET AUDIENCE:
This course is intended for SCADA Engineers, Control Systems Technicians, IT Professionals in OT, and Operations Managers.
TRAINING COURSE METHODOLOGY:
A highly interactive combination of lectures, discussion sessions, and case studies will be employed to maximize the transfer of information, knowledge, and experience. The course will be intensive, practical, and highly interactive. The sessions will start by raising the most relevant questions and motivating everybody to find the right answers. The attendants will also be encouraged to raise more of their questions and to share in developing the right answers using their analysis and experience. There will also be some indoor experiential activities to enhance the learning experience. Course material will be provided in PowerPoint, with necessary animations, learning videos, and general discussions.
The course participants shall be evaluated before, during, and at the end of the course.
COURSE CERTIFICATE:
National Consultant Centre for Training LLC (NCC) will issue an Attendance Certificate to all participants completing a minimum of 80% of the total attendance time requirement.
