REX Tank Gauging Technical Product Training
| 30 Mar. – 03 Apr. 2026, Abu Dhabi | 27 – 31 July 2026, Abu Dhabi |
COURSE OVERVIEW:
The purpose of this course is to provide specialized technical expertise in the installation, configuration, and maintenance of the Emerson Rosemount REX Tank Gauging system. High-precision tank gauging is the foundation of custody transfer and inventory management in the oil and gas industry, where a measurement error of even a few millimeters can result in significant financial discrepancies. This program focuses on the technical mastery of the REX radar gauge, which is designed for the most demanding bulk liquid storage applications.
The scope of this training encompasses the hardware components of the REX system, including the radar level gauge, the tank hub, and the associated temperature and pressure sensors. Participants will explore the mechanics of Frequency Modulated Continuous Wave (FMCW) radar technology and how it overcomes the challenges of vapor, foam, and internal tank obstructions. The curriculum is specifically designed to address the integration of the REX system into larger terminal automation and SCADA networks.
Coverage includes the practical aspects of antenna selection, wave-guide installation, and the digital configuration of the gauge using specialized software tools. Attendees will learn how to perform "tank strapping" (calibration), manage multi-spot temperature data, and troubleshoot signal interference or communication failures. By focusing on this specific product line, the course ensures that participants can maintain a high-integrity gauging system that meets international standards for legal metrology and fiscal accounting.
COURSE OBJECTIVES:
After completion of this course, the participants will be able to:
- Analyze the operating principles of Rosemount REX Radar technology.
- Identify the hardware components of a complete REX Gauging System.
- Select appropriate antennas and still-pipes for different tank types.
- Execute professional installation of the gauge and Tank Hub (2410).
- Configure the REX gauge using TankMaster software and HART.
- Implement Multi-spot Temperature (MST) measurement for volume correction.
- Perform "Empty Tank" and "Full Tank" calibration and verification.
- Troubleshoot signal errors caused by foam, turbulence, or obstructions.
- Configure communication protocols: TRL2, Modbus, and WirelessHART.
- Integrate REX data into Custody Transfer and Inventory Management systems.
- Identify and replace critical spare parts in the field safely.
- Document system configurations and maintain calibration certificates.
TARGET AUDIENCE:
This course is intended for Instrument Technicians, Metering Engineers, Terminal Operators, and Maintenance Staff using Rosemount Tank Gauging systems.
TRAINING COURSE METHODOLOGY:
A highly interactive combination of lectures, discussion sessions, and case studies will be employed to maximize the transfer of information, knowledge, and experience. The course will be intensive, practical, and highly interactive. The sessions will start by raising the most relevant questions and motivating everybody to find the right answers. The attendants will also be encouraged to raise more of their questions and to share in developing the right answers using their analysis and experience. There will also be some indoor experiential activities to enhance the learning experience. Course material will be provided in PowerPoint, with necessary animations, learning videos, and general discussions.
The course participants shall be evaluated before, during, and at the end of the course.
COURSE CERTIFICATE:
National Consultant Centre for Training LLC (NCC) will issue an Attendance Certificate to all participants completing a minimum of 80% of the total attendance time requirement.
