Network Management System (NMS): Monitoring, Reporting, and Maintenance
| 01 – 05 June 2026, Abu Dhabi | 21 – 25 Sep. 2026, Abu Dhabi |
COURSE OVERVIEW:
The purpose of this course is to provide a comprehensive technical understanding of the tools and strategies used to oversee complex industrial and enterprise communication networks. In the modern era of converged OT and IT, the Network Management System (NMS) acts as the central nervous system, providing visibility into the health, performance, and security of every connected device. This program focuses on how to leverage NMS platforms to ensure high availability and rapid response to network anomalies.
The scope of this training encompasses the standard protocols and architectures that facilitate network monitoring, specifically the Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP). Participants will explore the diverse functionalities of NMS, including fault detection, performance trending, configuration management, and security auditing (FCAPS). The curriculum is designed to move beyond basic pinging to the deep analysis of traffic patterns, bandwidth utilization, and the health of critical infrastructure components like switches, routers, and firewalls.
Coverage includes the practical aspects of setting up dashboards, configuring threshold-based alerts, and generating compliance reports. Attendees will learn how to maintain the NMS database, manage software updates across the network, and utilize diagnostic tools to isolate the root cause of connectivity issues. By focusing on the proactive management of the network, the course ensures that participants can protect the integrity of the data transmission layer that supports plant operations and business services.
COURSE OBJECTIVES:
After completion of this course, the participants will be able to:
- Analyze the core functions of a Network Management System (NMS).
- Implement the FCAPS model for comprehensive network administration.
- Configure SNMP (v2c and v3) for secure device monitoring.
- Interpret Management Information Bases (MIBs) and Object Identifiers (OIDs).
- Design intuitive dashboards for real-time network visibility.
- Establish performance baselines and threshold-based alerting.
- Utilize NetFlow and SFlow for deep packet and traffic analysis.
- Execute automated configuration backups and firmware management.
- Monitor the health of physical infrastructure, including UPS and Cooling.
- Generate detailed uptime and service level agreement (SLA) reports.
- Troubleshoot network bottlenecks and hardware failures using NMS data.
- Ensure the security and integrity of the NMS platform itself.
TARGET AUDIENCE:
This course is intended for Network Administrators, IT Support Specialists, Control System Engineers, and Infrastructure Managers.
TRAINING COURSE METHODOLOGY:
A highly interactive combination of lectures, discussion sessions, and case studies will be employed to maximize the transfer of information, knowledge, and experience. The course will be intensive, practical, and highly interactive. The sessions will start by raising the most relevant questions and motivating everybody to find the right answers. The attendants will also be encouraged to raise more of their questions and to share in developing the right answers using their analysis and experience. There will also be some indoor experiential activities to enhance the learning experience. Course material will be provided in PowerPoint, with necessary animations, learning videos, and general discussions.
The course participants shall be evaluated before, during, and at the end of the course.
COURSE CERTIFICATE:
National Consultant Centre for Training LLC (NCC) will issue an Attendance Certificate to all participants completing a minimum of 80% of the total attendance time requirement.
