LNG Tanks Level Management System (TMS) Operation and Maintenance

06 – 10 Apr. 2026, Abu Dhabi03 – 07 Aug. 2026, Dubai

COURSE OVERVIEW:

The purpose of this course is to provide specialized technical expertise in the monitoring and management of Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) storage systems. LNG tanks operate under extreme cryogenic conditions, necessitating highly sophisticated instrumentation to measure level, temperature, and density accurately. This program focuses on the integrated Tank Management System (TMS), which is critical for inventory control, commercial accounting, and the structural integrity of these massive storage assets.

The scope of this training encompasses the high-precision technologies used in LNG service, specifically Servo-driven and Radar gauges. Participants will explore the unique challenges of measuring level in a boiling liquid, the management of the "Rollover" phenomenon through density profiling, and the operation of redundant safety systems. The curriculum is designed to bridge the gap between field-level instrument maintenance and the software-based inventory management tools used in the control room.

Coverage includes the maintenance of multi-point temperature sensors, the configuration of boil-off gas (BOG) monitoring, and the integration of TMS data with the plant’s Distributed Control System (DCS). Attendees will learn how to troubleshoot gauge errors, perform safe instrument repairs without tank venting, and ensure that overfill protection systems meet safety standards. By focusing on the operation and maintenance of these critical systems, the course ensures that LNG facilities maintain safe storage conditions and precise financial records.

COURSE OBJECTIVES:

After completion of this course, the participants will be able to:

  • Analyze the physical properties of LNG and its impact on measurement.
  • Differentiate between Servo and Radar level gauging technologies.
  • Configure Tank Management System (TMS) software for inventory reporting.
  • Implement Density Profiling to detect and prevent LNG Rollover.
  • Monitor Tank Skin Temperature to detect primary container leaks.
  • Calibrate and maintain multi-spot temperature and level sensors.
  • Understand the role of the Tank Gauging System in Custody Transfer.
  • Troubleshoot communication faults between the tank and the control room.
  • Manage Boil-Off Gas (BOG) and tank pressure control strategies.
  • Verify the integrity of Independent High-Level Alarms (IHLA).
  • Execute maintenance on cryogenic instruments safely and effectively.
  • Adhere to international standards for LNG storage and measurement.

TARGET AUDIENCE:

This course is intended for Senior Instrumentation Technicians, LNG Plant Operators, Storage Engineers, and Maintenance Supervisors.

TRAINING COURSE METHODOLOGY:

A highly interactive combination of lectures, discussion sessions, and case studies will be employed to maximize the transfer of information, knowledge, and experience. The course will be intensive, practical, and highly interactive. The sessions will start by raising the most relevant questions and motivating everybody to find the right answers. The attendants will also be encouraged to raise more of their questions and to share in developing the right answers using their analysis and experience. There will also be some indoor experiential activities to enhance the learning experience. Course material will be provided in PowerPoint, with necessary animations, learning videos, and general discussions.

The course participants shall be evaluated before, during, and at the end of the course.

COURSE CERTIFICATE:

National Consultant Centre for Training LLC (NCC) will issue an Attendance Certificate to all participants completing a minimum of 80% of the total attendance time requirement.
