Integrating and Optimizing SCADA Systems

05 – 09 Jan. 2026, Abu Dhabi23 – 27 Nov. 2026, Sharm El Shaikh

COURSE OVERVIEW:

The purpose of this course is to provide a comprehensive engineering approach to the design, integration, and performance optimization of Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems. SCADA is the critical infrastructure used to monitor and control large-scale, geographically dispersed assets such as pipelines, water networks, and power grids. This program focuses on the technical integration of remote telemetry units (RTUs), communication links, and central host servers to create a seamless and responsive operational environment.

The scope of this training encompasses the technical architecture of SCADA, including the selection of communication media such as radio, cellular, and satellite links. Participants will explore the diverse range of industrial protocols used in wide-area networks, specifically focusing on the implementation of DNP3 and IEC 60870-5-104. The curriculum is designed to address the challenges of data latency, bandwidth management, and the synchronization of time-stamped data from remote locations.

Coverage includes the practical aspects of SCADA security, including the isolation of control networks and the implementation of encryption for remote links. Attendees will learn how to optimize the "Poll-Response" and "Report-by-Exception" strategies to maximize network efficiency, while exploring the integration of SCADA data into enterprise-level reporting and analysis tools. By focusing on both the field-level telemetry and the central master station, the course ensures that participants can build and maintain SCADA systems that provide high availability and actionable intelligence.

COURSE OBJECTIVES:

After completion of this course, the participants will be able to:

  • Analyze the functional architecture of a Wide-Area SCADA System.
  • Differentiate between PLC, RTU, and IED field hardware.
  • Select appropriate communication media for remote site connectivity.
  • Implement DNP3 and IEC 60870-5-104 protocols for remote telemetry.
  • Configure the Master Station software for efficient data acquisition.
  • Optimize polling strategies to manage limited network bandwidth.
  • Implement time-synchronization (GPS/NTP) for accurate data logging.
  • Design redundant SCADA Host and Communication architectures.
  • Secure SCADA networks against unauthorized access and cyber threats.
  • Integrate SCADA data with GIS and Enterprise Asset Management systems.
  • Troubleshoot communication failures in remote radio and satellite links.
  • Ensure compliance with NERC CIP and international security standards.

TARGET AUDIENCE:

This course is intended for SCADA Engineers, Telemetry Technicians, Network Specialists, and Operations Managers responsible for wide-area infrastructure.

TRAINING COURSE METHODOLOGY:

A highly interactive combination of lectures, discussion sessions, and case studies will be employed to maximize the transfer of information, knowledge, and experience. The course will be intensive, practical, and highly interactive. The sessions will start by raising the most relevant questions and motivating everybody to find the right answers. The attendants will also be encouraged to raise more of their questions and to share in developing the right answers using their analysis and experience. There will also be some indoor experiential activities to enhance the learning experience. Course material will be provided in PowerPoint, with necessary animations, learning videos, and general discussions.

The course participants shall be evaluated before, during, and at the end of the course.

COURSE CERTIFICATE:

National Consultant Centre for Training LLC (NCC) will issue an Attendance Certificate to all participants completing a minimum of 80% of the total attendance time requirement.
