Flow Measurement Techniques and Best Practices

22 – 26 June 2026, Abu Dhabi14 – 18 Sep. 2026, Dubai

COURSE OVERVIEW:

The purpose of this course involves the technical mastery of flow measurement, which is one of the most critical and challenging variables in industrial process control. Accurate flow data is essential for material balancing, quality control, and fiscal accounting; however, achieving precision requires a deep understanding of fluid dynamics and instrument selection. This program provides the engineering framework needed to choose, install, and maintain flow meters that provide reliable data across varying process conditions.

The scope of this training encompasses the full spectrum of flow measurement technologies, from traditional differential pressure (DP) devices to advanced ultrasonic and Coriolis meters. Participants will explore the physical principles of each technology, learning how fluid properties—such as viscosity, density, and conductivity—influence meter performance. The curriculum is designed to address the "Best Practices" for installation, focusing on the critical importance of upstream piping, flow conditioning, and secondary instrumentation.

Coverage includes the practical verification and calibration of flow systems to ensure long-term accuracy and compliance with international standards. Attendees will learn how to troubleshoot common flow measurement errors, manage multi-phase flow challenges, and utilize digital diagnostics to predict instrument failure. By focusing on both the theoretical physics of flow and the practicalities of field installation, the course ensures that participants can manage flow measurement systems that deliver maximum value and technical integrity.

COURSE OBJECTIVES:

After completion of this course, the participants will be able to:

  • Analyze the principles of fluid mechanics (Bernoulli, Reynolds Number) in flow sensing.
  • Select the optimal flow meter technology based on process fluid and application.
  • Design correct piping layouts to minimize turbulence and profile distortion.
  • Perform accurate sizing and calculation for Orifice Plates and DP Flow meters.
  • Evaluate the performance of Ultrasonic, Vortex, and Magnetic flow meters.
  • Implement Coriolis meters for high-precision direct mass flow measurement.
  • Calculate flow compensation for temperature and pressure variations.
  • Apply international standards (ISO 5167, AGA, API) to flow measurement.
  • Troubleshoot flow signal noise, drift, and intermittent failures.
  • Execute field verification and wet-calibration procedures for flow meters.
  • Manage the challenges of measuring steam and high-viscosity fluids.
  • Utilize advanced meter diagnostics for condition-based maintenance.

TARGET AUDIENCE:

This course is intended for Instrument Engineers, Measurement Technicians, Process Engineers, and Calibration Specialists who need to ensure the accuracy of industrial flow measurements.

TRAINING COURSE METHODOLOGY:

A highly interactive combination of lectures, discussion sessions, and case studies will be employed to maximize the transfer of information, knowledge, and experience. The course will be intensive, practical, and highly interactive. The sessions will start by raising the most relevant questions and motivating everybody to find the right answers. The attendants will also be encouraged to raise more of their questions and to share in developing the right answers using their analysis and experience. There will also be some indoor experiential activities to enhance the learning experience. Course material will be provided in PowerPoint, with necessary animations, learning videos, and general discussions.

The course participants shall be evaluated before, during, and at the end of the course.

COURSE CERTIFICATE:

National Consultant Centre for Training LLC (NCC) will issue an Attendance Certificate to all participants completing a minimum of 80% of the total attendance time requirement.
