Fieldbus for Process Control: Engineering, Installation, Commissioning, Troubleshooting

08 – 12 June 2026, Abu Dhabi26 – 30 Oct. 2026, Sharm El Shaikh

COURSE OVERVIEW:

The purpose of this course focuses on the transition from traditional analog signaling to digital fieldbus technologies, which provide unprecedented levels of data and diagnostic capability. Fieldbus represents the backbone of modern industrial communication, allowing multiple instruments to share a single digital wire while providing real-time health and status information. This program provides the technical foundation needed to engineer, install, and support these complex digital networks.

The scope of this training encompasses the technical design and physical installation of Foundation Fieldbus and Profibus networks. Participants will explore the engineering of segments, including the calculation of voltage drops, cable lengths, and device loads. The curriculum details the commissioning of digital devices, focusing on the configuration of Device Descriptions (DD), the management of network scheduling, and the integration of digital field data into the host Distributed Control System (DCS).

Coverage includes the specialized troubleshooting techniques required to maintain digital signal integrity in noisy industrial environments. Attendees will learn how to use fieldbus analyzers to identify communication errors, signal distortion, and termination issues. The course addresses the unique requirements for fieldbus in hazardous areas and the management of device-level diagnostics for predictive maintenance. By focusing on the entire lifecycle of a digital segment, the course ensures that participants can maximize the reliability and diagnostic value of fieldbus technology.

COURSE OBJECTIVES:

After completion of this course, the participants will be able to:

  • Analyze the architectural differences between Analog and Digital Fieldbus.
  • Design Fieldbus segments, including Power, Termination, and Length limits.
  • Select and install appropriate Fieldbus cables, couplers, and terminators.
  • Configure Fieldbus device parameters using DD and DTM files.
  • Manage network scheduling and communication "Macrocycle" timing.
  • Utilize Fieldbus Analyzers to diagnose signal noise and jitter.
  • Implement Intrinsic Safety and FISCO standards for hazardous areas.
  • Commission Fieldbus instruments and verify digital feedback loops.
  • Troubleshoot "No Communication" and intermittent segment errors.
  • Utilize advanced device diagnostics for proactive maintenance.
  • Integrate Fieldbus data into Asset Management Systems (AMS).
  • Ensure compliance with Foundation Fieldbus and Profibus standards.

TARGET AUDIENCE:

This course is intended for Instrument Engineers, Automation Technicians, Commissioning Specialists, and Maintenance Supervisors working with digital process control networks.

TRAINING COURSE METHODOLOGY:

A highly interactive combination of lectures, discussion sessions, and case studies will be employed to maximize the transfer of information, knowledge, and experience. The course will be intensive, practical, and highly interactive. The sessions will start by raising the most relevant questions and motivating everybody to find the right answers. The attendants will also be encouraged to raise more of their questions and to share in developing the right answers using their analysis and experience. There will also be some indoor experiential activities to enhance the learning experience. Course material will be provided in PowerPoint, with necessary animations, learning videos, and general discussions.

The course participants shall be evaluated before, during, and at the end of the course.

COURSE CERTIFICATE:

National Consultant Centre for Training LLC (NCC) will issue an Attendance Certificate to all participants completing a minimum of 80% of the total attendance time requirement.
