Configuration, Installation, and Maintenance of STI Actuator and Positioner
| 20 – 24 Apr. 2026, Abu Dhabi | 17 – 21 Aug. 2026, Dubai |
COURSE OVERVIEW:
The Configuration, Installation, and Maintenance of STI Actuator and Positioner course is a specialized technical program focused on the high-performance valve automation solutions provided by STI (a Flowserve company). STI equipment is renowned for its precision and reliability in severe service and critical control applications. This course provides a deep dive into the mechanical and electronic aspects of STI pneumatic actuators and digital positioners, ensuring that participants can optimize the response and accuracy of final control elements in demanding industrial environments.
The scope of this training covers the entire physical and digital setup of STI hardware. Participants will learn the engineering requirements for mounting actuators on various valve types and the critical importance of alignment and linkage adjustment. The curriculum provides detailed guidance on the configuration of STI’s digital positioners, including the use of specialized software for auto-tuning, calibration, and the setting of performance parameters such as deadband and travel limits.
This coverage also emphasizes the advanced diagnostic capabilities that STI positioners offer for predictive maintenance. Attendees will learn how to interpret valve signatures, step-response tests, and friction data to identify deteriorating valve performance before it impacts the process. By focusing on systematic maintenance, including seal replacement, pneumatic troubleshooting, and firmware management, the program ensures that participants can maintain these high-precision assets at peak performance while extending their operational lifespan.
COURSE OBJECTIVES:
After completion of this course, the participants will be able to:
- Identify the different models and applications of STI Actuators and Positioners.
- Perform correct mechanical installation and mounting of STI actuators on valves.
- Configure STI digital positioners using local interfaces and handheld communicators.
- Execute auto-calibration and manual fine-tuning for optimal valve response.
- Implement advanced features such as Partial Stroke Testing (PST) for safety valves.
- Utilize STI diagnostic software to analyze valve health and performance.
- Troubleshoot pneumatic leaks and electronic faults within the actuator/positioner set.
- Perform routine maintenance including seal kit replacement and linkage lubrication.
- Calibrate feedback signals and limit switches for accurate HMI status.
- Optimize air consumption and dynamic response using volume boosters.
- Interpret valve signature curves to identify stiction and friction issues.
- Ensure compliance with hazardous area standards for STI electronic components.
TARGET AUDIENCE:
This course is intended for Instrumentation Technicians, Valve Specialists, Maintenance Engineers, and Automation Professionals responsible for the selection, installation, and upkeep of STI valve automation products.
TRAINING COURSE METHODOLOGY:
A highly interactive combination of lectures, discussion sessions, and case studies will be employed to maximize the transfer of information, knowledge, and experience. The course will be intensive, practical, and highly interactive. The sessions will start by raising the most relevant questions and motivating everybody to find the right answers. The attendants will also be encouraged to raise more of their questions and to share in developing the right answers using their analysis and experience. There will also be some indoor experiential activities to enhance the learning experience. Course material will be provided in PowerPoint, with necessary animations, learning videos, and general discussions.
The course participants shall be evaluated before, during, and at the end of the course.
COURSE CERTIFICATE:
National Consultant Centre for Training LLC (NCC) will issue an Attendance Certificate to all participants completing a minimum of 80% of the total attendance time requirement.
