Seismic Acquisition Project Management
| 18 – 22 May 2026, Abu Dhabi | 14 – 18 Sep. 2026, Dubai |
COURSE OVERVIEW:
Seismic acquisition project management involves the complex coordination of technical, financial, and operational variables to ensure the successful gathering of subsurface data. This course focuses on the lifecycle of a seismic survey, from initial feasibility studies and design to the final demobilization of field crews. It addresses the critical balance between achieving high-quality geophysical objectives and maintaining strict adherence to budgetary and temporal constraints in diverse environments.
The scope of this program encompasses the selection of appropriate technologies, the management of multi-disciplinary teams, and the oversight of specialized contractors. Participants will explore the nuances of land, marine, and transition zone operations, identifying the unique logistical challenges associated with each. Detailed attention is given to the procurement process, contract negotiation, and the implementation of robust Quality Assurance and Quality Control (QA/QC) protocols to safeguard the integrity of the acquired data.
Coverage also includes the vital aspects of Risk Management, Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE), and community relations. In an increasingly regulated industry, project managers must navigate environmental permits, land access rights, and local content requirements. This course provides the strategic tools necessary to lead seismic projects that are not only technically superior but also socially responsible and economically efficient.
COURSE OBJECTIVES:
After completion of this course, the participants will be able to:
- Define the primary phases of the seismic acquisition project lifecycle and their interdependencies.
- Develop a comprehensive project execution plan tailored to specific geological targets.
- Evaluate the cost-benefit ratio of various seismic source and receiver configurations.
- Implement effective tendering and contractor selection processes for geophysical services.
- Analyze technical specifications to ensure seismic data meets predefined resolution requirements.
- Manage complex logistics for seismic crews in remote or environmentally sensitive areas.
- Establish rigorous Quality Control (QC) workflows for real-time data validation in the field.
- Identify and mitigate operational risks through structured risk assessment methodologies.
- Ensure compliance with international HSE standards and local environmental regulations.
- Facilitate effective communication between geophysicists, engineers, and external stakeholders.
- Monitor project timelines and budgets using advanced project management software tools.
- Navigate the legal complexities of land access, permitting, and community compensation.
- Conduct thorough post-project evaluations to capture lessons learned and improve future performance.
TARGET AUDIENCE:
This course is specifically designed for exploration managers, seismic project leaders, geophysicists, operations engineers, and procurement specialists involved in the planning and execution of seismic surveys.
TRAINING COURSE METHODOLOGY:
A highly interactive combination of lectures, discussion sessions, and case studies will be employed to maximise the transfer of information, knowledge, and experience. The course will be intensive, practical, and highly interactive. The sessions will start by raising the most relevant questions and motivating everybody to find the right answers. The attendants will also be encouraged to raise more of their questions and to share in developing the right answers using their analysis and experience. There will also be some indoor experiential activities to enhance the learning experience. Course material will be provided in PowerPoint, with necessary animations, learning videos, and general discussions.
The course participants shall be evaluated before, during, and at the end of the course.
COURSE CERTIFICATE:
National Consultant Centre for Training LLC (NCC) will issue an Attendance Certificate to all participants completing a minimum of 80% of the total attendance time requirement.
