Onshore Land Surveying for Oil and Gas Upstream
| 01 – 05 June 2026, Dubai | 19 – 23 Oct. 2026, Abu Dhabi |
COURSE OVERVIEW:
Onshore Land Surveying for Oil and Gas Upstream is a practical course that covers the essential surveying techniques required throughout the lifecycle of an onshore asset. From initial seismic exploration and well-pad positioning to the construction of pipelines and production facilities, accurate spatial data is the backbone of operational success. This course introduces participants to the fundamentals of geodesy, coordinate systems, and the latest surveying technologies, including GNSS, Total Stations, and 3D Laser Scanning.
The coverage includes the legal and technical aspects of boundary surveys, right-of-way (ROW) delineation, and topographical mapping. Attendees will learn how to establish high-precision control networks in remote environments and how to ensure the accurate layout of complex infrastructure. The scope also addresses the critical role of surveying in safety and regulatory compliance, such as monitoring the structural integrity of tanks and identifying potential geohazards along pipeline routes.
Furthermore, the course addresses the management of spatial data within a Geographic Information System (GIS) and the integration of surveying results with engineering designs. Participants will explore modern workflows involving UAV (Drone) photogrammetry for rapid site mapping and the use of mobile GIS for field data collection. The training emphasizes the importance of data quality control and the prevention of costly errors in "as-built" documentation. By the end of the course, participants will be able to manage and execute land surveying projects that meet the rigorous standards of the upstream oil and gas industry.
COURSE OBJECTIVES:
After completion of this course, the participants will be able to:
- Define the core principles of Geodesy and Map Projections.
- Utilize Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS) for high-precision positioning.
- Perform topographical surveys using Total Stations and Leveling.
- Establish and maintain primary and secondary geodetic control networks.
- Manage "Right-of-Way" (ROW) and boundary surveys for pipelines and roads.
- Conduct precise layout and staking for well-pads and drilling rigs.
- Utilize 3D Laser Scanning for as-built facility documentation.
- Create detailed topographical maps and Digital Terrain Models (DTM).
- Perform volumetric surveys for earthworks and stockpile management.
- Integrate surveying data into Enterprise GIS and CAD systems.
- Conduct deformation and settlement monitoring for critical infrastructure.
- Utilize UAV (Drone) technology for rapid site assessments and mapping.
- Ensure Quality Control (QC) and accuracy of spatial data deliverables.
- Navigate regulatory and environmental requirements for field surveying.
TARGET AUDIENCE:
Surveyors, Civil Engineers, Pipeline Project Managers, GIS Technicians, and Field Supervisors involved in onshore upstream operations.
TRAINING COURSE METHODOLOGY:
A highly interactive combination of lectures, discussion sessions, and case studies will be employed to maximise the transfer of information, knowledge, and experience. The course will be intensive, practical, and highly interactive. The sessions will start by raising the most relevant questions and motivating everybody to find the right answers. The attendants will also be encouraged to raise more of their questions and to share in developing the right answers using their analysis and experience. There will also be some indoor experiential activities to enhance the learning experience. Course material will be provided in PowerPoint, with necessary animations, learning videos, and general discussions.
The course participants shall be evaluated before, during, and at the end of the course.
COURSE CERTIFICATE:
National Consultant Centre for Training LLC (NCC) will issue an Attendance Certificate to all participants completing a minimum of 80% of the total attendance time requirement.
