ArcGIS Level 1: Introduction to GIS and Essential Workflows
| 19 – 23 Jan. 2026, Abu Dhabi | 14 – 18 Dec. 2026, Abu Dhabi |
COURSE OVERVIEW:
ArcGIS Level 1: Introduction to GIS and Essential Workflows is a foundational course designed to introduce the core concepts of Geographic Information Systems and their application in the energy sector. This course focuses on the fundamental structure of spatial data, including vector and raster formats, and how they are used to represent real-world geological and infrastructure features. Participants will learn the basic interface of the ArcGIS platform, enabling them to navigate, visualize, and manage geospatial information effectively.
The scope of this training covers the complete lifecycle of a basic GIS project, from data acquisition and coordinate system definition to map creation and sharing. Participants will gain hands-on experience in symbolization, labeling, and the use of attribute tables to perform simple queries. By understanding the importance of spatial references and projections, attendees will ensure that their geological maps and lease boundaries are accurately represented and aligned with global standards.
Furthermore, the course addresses essential workflows such as basic editing, geoprocessing, and the creation of professional-grade map layouts. Participants will learn how to use tools like Buffer, Clip, and Intersect to solve basic spatial problems and support decision-making processes. This course provides a solid entry point for geoscientists, technicians, and administrators who wish to leverage spatial technology to enhance their daily productivity and data organization.
COURSE OBJECTIVES:
After completion of this course, the participants will be able to:
- Define the components and capabilities of a Geographic Information System.
- Navigate the ArcGIS Pro or ArcMap interface with confidence.
- Differentiate between vector data models and raster data models.
- Apply correct coordinate systems and map projections to spatial data.
- Connect to folders and databases to import geoscience and infrastructure data.
- Symbolize layers based on attributes to create clear geological maps.
- Manage attribute tables, including adding fields and calculating values.
- Perform spatial and attribute queries to filter and find specific data points.
- Utilize basic geoprocessing tools for data analysis and management.
- Create and edit spatial features such as points, lines, and polygons.
- Design professional map layouts with essential elements like legends and scales.
- Share GIS maps and data layers through various export formats.
- Troubleshoot common data alignment and display issues in ArcGIS.
TARGET AUDIENCE:
Geologists, Engineers, Surveyors, and Data Managers are new to GIS or those requiring a refresher on modern ArcGIS workflows.
TRAINING COURSE METHODOLOGY:
A highly interactive combination of lectures, discussion sessions, and case studies will be employed to maximise the transfer of information, knowledge, and experience. The course will be intensive, practical, and highly interactive. The sessions will start by raising the most relevant questions and motivating everybody to find the right answers. The attendants will also be encouraged to raise more of their questions and to share in developing the right answers using their analysis and experience. There will also be some indoor experiential activities to enhance the learning experience. Course material will be provided in PowerPoint, with necessary animations, learning videos, and general discussions.
The course participants shall be evaluated before, during, and at the end of the course.
COURSE CERTIFICATE:
National Consultant Centre for Training LLC (NCC) will issue an Attendance Certificate to all participants completing a minimum of 80% of the total attendance time requirement.
