Advanced Wellsite Geology and Geosteering Decision Support

08 – 12 June 2026, Abu Dhabi26 – 30 Oct. 2026, Sharm El Shaikh

COURSE OVERVIEW:

At the forefront of drilling operations, the modern wellsite geologist must transform raw data into critical decision support. This course provides an advanced exploration of the responsibilities and technical workflows required to manage high-angle and horizontal wells. Participants will learn how to integrate geological concepts with real-time drilling parameters and Logging While Drilling (LWD) measurements to ensure the wellbore remains within the most productive reservoir zones while avoiding operational hazards.

The scope of this training focuses on the "Decision Support" aspect of wellsite operations, moving beyond basic sample description to advanced geosteering. Attendees will master the use of azimuthal LWD tools, image interpretation, and real-time modeling to navigate complex structural and stratigraphic targets. We will examine the critical communication link between the wellsite, the operations center, and the drilling team, focusing on how to convey geological uncertainty during high-pressure drilling scenarios.

Coverage includes the analysis of drilling dynamics, gas chromatography, and borehole stability to provide early warnings of subsurface risks. By the end of this course, participants will be equipped to manage the geological execution of complex wells, from multilateral designs to deep-water exploration. The course emphasizes the practical skills needed to optimize well placement, maximize reservoir contact, and minimize non-productive time through informed, data-driven decisions.

COURSE OBJECTIVES:

After completion of this course, the participants will be able to:

  • Execute the full range of advanced wellsite geological responsibilities.
  • Integrate real-time LWD and MWD data for proactive geosteering decisions.
  • Interpret azimuthal logging data and borehole images while drilling.
  • Utilize advanced gas chromatography for fluid and reservoir connectivity analysis.
  • Manage structural and stratigraphic uncertainty in high-angle wells.
  • Provide real-time wellbore stability support through geomechanical observations.
  • Optimize the placement of casing points and completion intervals.
  • Distinguish between geological features and drilling-induced artifacts.
  • Conduct real-time formation evaluation and reservoir quality assessment.
  • Supervise mud logging, wireline, and coring operations with high technical rigor.
  • Communicate critical "stop-drilling" or "course-correction" decisions effectively.
  • Generate high-quality real-time geological reports and final well summaries.
  • Apply geosteering software tools to update the 3D model during drilling.

TARGET AUDIENCE:

Wellsite Geologists, Operations Geologists, Geosteering Specialists, and Drilling Supervisors seeking to enhance their subsurface decision-making skills.

TRAINING COURSE METHODOLOGY:

A highly interactive combination of lectures, discussion sessions, and case studies will be employed to maximise the transfer of information, knowledge, and experience. The course will be intensive, practical, and highly interactive. The sessions will start by raising the most relevant questions and motivating everybody to find the right answers. The attendants will also be encouraged to raise more of their questions and to share in developing the right answers using their analysis and experience. There will also be some indoor experiential activities to enhance the learning experience. Course material will be provided in PowerPoint, with necessary animations, learning videos, and general discussions.

The course participants shall be evaluated before, during, and at the end of the course.

COURSE CERTIFICATE:

National Consultant Centre for Training LLC (NCC) will issue an Attendance Certificate to all participants completing a minimum of 80% of the total attendance time requirement.
