Energy Efficiency Benchmarking and Performance Metrics

27 Apr. – 01 May 2026, Abu Dhabi21 – 25 Sep. 2026, Dubai

COURSE OVERVIEW:

The meaning of energy efficiency benchmarking refers to the systematic process of comparing the energy performance of an organization, facility, or asset against internal targets, industry peers, or best-in-class standards. This course focuses on the transition from simple consumption tracking to sophisticated, multi-variable performance analysis that accounts for production volume, weather variability, and operational constraints. By establishing robust benchmarks, organizations can identify "Performance Gaps" and prioritize investments that offer the highest environmental and financial returns.

The scope of this training covers the development and application of Energy Performance Indicators (EnPIs) across diverse sectors, including manufacturing, commercial buildings, and heavy industry. It examines the statistical methodologies required for "Energy Baselining," including linear and multi-variable regression analysis used to normalize data. The course provides a deep dive into international benchmarking frameworks such as the ENERGY STAR® program, the EU Building Passport, and the ISO 50001 energy management system requirements for monitoring and measurement.

Coverage includes the use of data visualization tools to communicate benchmarking results to different stakeholder groups, from plant operators to C-suite executives. The course addresses the challenges of data quality, sub-metering, and the integration of external benchmarks into corporate sustainability reporting. Participants will gain practical expertise in using benchmarking as a strategic management tool to drive continuous improvement, justify capital expenditures, and ensure compliance with emerging mandatory energy disclosure regulations worldwide.

COURSE OBJECTIVES:

After completion of this course, the participants will be able to:

  1. Contrast internal, peer-to-peer, and best-in-class benchmarking strategies.
  2. Develop meaningful Energy Performance Indicators (EnPIs) for complex processes.
  3. Conduct statistical normalization of energy data to account for external variables.
  4. Establish robust energy baselines in accordance with ISO 50006 standards.
  5. Utilize CUSUM (Cumulative Sum) charts to detect energy performance drift.
  6. Navigate global benchmarking platforms like GRESB and ENERGY STAR®.
  7. Analyze the energy intensity of production lines using Specific Energy Consumption (SEC).
  8. Design energy dashboards that visualize performance against benchmarks.
  9. Implement a "Gap Analysis" to identify low-performing assets in a portfolio.
  10. Verify energy savings using the International Performance Measurement and Verification Protocol (IPMVP).
  11. Communicate benchmarking results to secure funding for efficiency projects.
  12. Formulate a long-term energy performance monitoring and benchmarking plan.

TARGET AUDIENCE:

This course is designed for Energy Managers, Sustainability Officers, Facility Engineers, Operations Managers, Data Analysts, and Management Consultants responsible for measuring and improving organizational energy performance.

TRAINING COURSE METHODOLOGY:

A highly interactive combination of lectures, discussion sessions, and case studies will be employed to maximize the transfer of information, knowledge, and experience. The course will be intensive, practical, and highly interactive. The sessions will start by raising the most relevant questions and motivating everybody to find the right answers. The attendants will also be encouraged to raise more of their questions and to share in developing the right answers using their analysis and experience. There will also be some indoor experiential activities to enhance the learning experience. Course material will be provided in PowerPoint, with necessary animations, learning videos, and general discussions.

The course participants shall be evaluated before, during, and at the end of the course.

COURSE CERTIFICATE:

National Consultant Centre for Training LLC (NCC) will issue an Attendance Certificate to all participants completing a minimum of 80% of the total attendance time requirement.
