Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) Systems: Operation and Maintenance

01 – 05 June 2026, Dubai19 – 23 Oct. 2026, Abu Dhabi

COURSE OVERVIEW:

In modern industrial and commercial facilities, the availability of clean and continuous power is a critical operational requirement. This course provides a technical framework for the "Operation and Maintenance" of Uninterruptible Power Supplies (UPS), focusing on the conversion of utility power into stable AC output for sensitive loads. Participants will explore the mechanics of "Double-Conversion" technology, learning how the rectifier, inverter, and static bypass components interact to provide seamless power during grid transients and total outages.

The scope of this training addresses the full spectrum of UPS architectures, including "Online," "Offline," and "Line-Interactive" systems. It covers the technical nuances of "Energy Storage," focusing on the management of battery banks and their role in providing "Autonomy Time." The curriculum provides a detailed focus on "Redundancy Configurations," ensuring that participants can manage and maintain "N+1" and "2N" systems that safeguard mission-critical data centers and medical infrastructure.

Coverage includes the implementation of rigorous "Preventive Maintenance" protocols to ensure the reliability of power electronics and cooling systems. Attendees will learn to utilize "Operational HMI" for real-time monitoring, conduct "Load Bank Testing" to verify capacity, and troubleshoot "Fault Codes" related to inverter failure or battery degradation. By combining power electronics theory with hands-on maintenance strategies, the course equips professionals with the expertise required to manage high-availability UPS installations with technical confidence.

COURSE OBJECTIVES:

After completion of this course, the participants will be able to:

  • Define the "Operating Modes" of a Double-Conversion UPS.
  • Identify the components of "Rectifiers," "Inverters," and "Static Switches."
  • Execute "Safe Start-up" and "Shut-down" procedures.
  • Manage "Static Bypass" and "Maintenance Bypass" transitions.
  • Evaluate "System Redundancy" (N+1, 2N) for critical loads.
  • Perform "Battery Capacity" and "Impedance" testing.
  • Troubleshoot "UPS Alarm Codes" and inverter trips.
  • Calculate "Autonomy Time" based on load and battery health.
  • Implement "Cooling and Ventilation" maintenance for power modules.
  • Conduct "Infrared Thermography" on power terminations.
  • Utilize "SNMP" for remote UPS monitoring and management.
  • Document "Maintenance Logs" and battery replacement schedules.

TARGET AUDIENCE:

This course is intended for Facilities Managers, Electrical Maintenance Technicians, Data Center Operators, and Hospital Technical Staff responsible for secure power systems.

TRAINING COURSE METHODOLOGY:

A highly interactive combination of lectures, discussion sessions, and case studies will be employed to maximize the transfer of information, knowledge, and experience. The course will be intensive, practical, and highly interactive. The sessions will start by raising the most relevant questions and motivating everybody to find the right answers. The attendants will also be encouraged to raise more of their questions and to share in developing the right answers using their analysis and experience. There will also be some indoor experiential activities to enhance the learning experience. Course material will be provided in PowerPoint, with necessary animations, learning videos, and general discussions.

The course participants shall be evaluated before, during, and at the end of the course.

COURSE CERTIFICATE:

National Consultant Centre for Training LLC (NCC) will issue an Attendance Certificate to all participants completing a minimum of 80% of the total attendance time requirement.
