Test Equipment and Link-Cable Testing

20 – 24 Apr. 2026, Dubai14 – 18 Sep. 2026, Abu Dhabi

COURSE OVERVIEW:

The validation of electrical and communication networks depends on the accurate utilisation of specialised test equipment. This course provides a technical exploration of "Diagnostic Instrumentation," focusing on the verification of copper and fibre-optic links within industrial and utility environments. Participants will explore the mechanics of "Signal Integrity," learning how to interpret data from "Time Domain Reflectometers" (TDR), "Cable Analyzers," and "Oscilloscopes" to identify faults such as cross-talk, attenuation, and impedance mismatches.

The scope of this training addresses the full spectrum of testing requirements for both "Power Cables" and "Data Links." It covers the technical nuances of "Calibration and Traceability," focusing on the importance of using certified instruments to meet international compliance standards (e.g., TIA/EIA, ISO/IEC). The curriculum provides a detailed focus on "Link-Cable Testing," ensuring that participants can conduct "Permanent Link" and "Channel" tests to certify high-speed networks for modern automation and control.

Coverage includes the implementation of rigorous testing workflows for "VLF Withstand," "Insulation Resistance," and "Optical Loss." Attendees will learn to manage "Test Leads" and "Probe Safety," analyse "Complex Waveforms," and document "Certification Reports" for project handover. By combining instrument physics with practical measurement techniques, the course equips professionals with the expertise required to utilise advanced test equipment to maintain a high-reliability electrical and data infrastructure.

COURSE OBJECTIVES:

After completion of this course, the participants will be able to:

  • Define the "Operating Principles" of major electrical test instruments.
  • Identify the "Category Ratings" (CAT I-IV) for instrument safety.
  • Utilise "Digital Multimeters" (DMM) for precision measurements.
  • Execute "Insulation Resistance" (IR) and "Polarisation Index" (PI) tests.
  • Perform "Link-Cable Certification" for Cat6/6A/7 data networks.
  • Utilise "TDR" (Time Domain Reflectometry) for fault location.
  • Execute "OTDR" (Optical TDR) tests for fibre optic link integrity.
  • Interpret "Cross-talk" (NEXT/FEXT) and "Return Loss" in data cables.
  • Conduct "Power Quality" logging and "Harmonic Analysis."
  • Utilise "Oscilloscopes" for waveform and transient capture.
  • Manage "Calibration Records" and instrument maintenance.
  • Document "Test Certificates" and "Cable Certification Reports."

TARGET AUDIENCE:

This course is intended for Electrical Technicians, Network Engineers, Commissioning Specialists, and Quality Assurance Inspectors.

TRAINING COURSE METHODOLOGY:

A highly interactive combination of lectures, discussion sessions, and case studies will be employed to maximize the transfer of information, knowledge, and experience. The course will be intensive, practical, and highly interactive. The sessions will start by raising the most relevant questions and motivating everybody to find the right answers. The attendants will also be encouraged to raise more of their questions and to share in developing the right answers using their analysis and experience. There will also be some indoor experiential activities to enhance the learning experience. Course material will be provided in PowerPoint, with necessary animations, learning videos, and general discussions.

The course participants shall be evaluated before, during, and at the end of the course.

COURSE CERTIFICATE:

National Consultant Centre for Training LLC (NCC) will issue an Attendance Certificate to all participants completing a minimum of 80% of the total attendance time requirement.
