Tagging and LOTO (Lock Out and Tag Out) Procedures
| 13 – 17 Apr. 2026, Abu Dhabi | 07 – 11 Sep. 2026, Abu Dhabi |
COURSE OVERVIEW:
The prevention of accidental energization during maintenance is the most critical safety protocol in the electrical industry. This course provides a technical exploration of "Lock-Out Tag-Out" (LOTO) and "Tagging" systems, focusing on the rigorous procedural discipline required to achieve "Zero Energy" status. Participants will explore the mechanics of "Isolation," learning how to identify all energy sources—including electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, and stored energy—to ensure a safe work environment for maintenance personnel.
The scope of this training addresses the full spectrum of LOTO applications, from simple single-point isolations to complex multi-departmental "Group Lock-Outs." It covers the technical nuances of "Energy Control Programs" (ECP), focusing on the legal requirements of OSHA 1910.147 and international safety standards. The curriculum provides a detailed focus on "Verification of Isolation," ensuring that participants can utilize calibrated instruments to prove the absence of voltage before any work commences.
Coverage includes the implementation of "Tagging Systems," focusing on the clarity of information required for "Danger" and "Caution" tags. Attendees will learn to manage "Lock Boxes," utilize "Master Key" protocols for large outages, and execute the safe "Return-to-Service" sequence. By combining regulatory compliance with practical behavioral safety, the course equips professionals with the expertise required to implement a robust LOTO culture that eliminates the risk of "Unexpected Re-energization."
COURSE OBJECTIVES:
After completion of this course, the participants will be able to:
- Define the "Standard Operating Procedures" (SOP) for LOTO.
- Identify "Primary," "Secondary," and "Stored" energy sources.
- Execute "Safe Isolation" of electrical switchgear and valves.
- Utilize "Locks," "Hasps," and "Tags" according to color-code standards.
- Implement "Group Lock-Out" procedures for complex shutdowns.
- Perform "Verification of Isolation" (Try-Test) protocols.
- Explain the "Legal Responsibilities" of authorized and affected staff.
- Manage "Key Control" and "Lock Box" administration.
- Execute the "Six-Step" LOTO sequence (Prepare to Restore).
- Troubleshoot "Complex Isolation" challenges in older plants.
- Perform "LOTO Audits" to identify procedural non-compliance.
- Document "Isolation Certificates" and "Permit to Work" (PTW) logs.
TARGET AUDIENCE:
This course is intended for Maintenance Personnel, Safety Officers, Plant Operators, and Site Supervisors across all industrial sectors.
TRAINING COURSE METHODOLOGY:
A highly interactive combination of lectures, discussion sessions, and case studies will be employed to maximize the transfer of information, knowledge, and experience. The course will be intensive, practical, and highly interactive. The sessions will start by raising the most relevant questions and motivating everybody to find the right answers. The attendants will also be encouraged to raise more of their questions and to share in developing the right answers using their analysis and experience. There will also be some indoor experiential activities to enhance the learning experience. Course material will be provided in PowerPoint, with necessary animations, learning videos, and general discussions.
The course participants shall be evaluated before, during, and at the end of the course.
COURSE CERTIFICATE:
National Consultant Centre for Training LLC (NCC) will issue an Attendance Certificate to all participants completing a minimum of 80% of the total attendance time requirement.
