Power System Analysis and Calculations in Electrical Networks Using ETAP

18 – 22 May 2026, Abu Dhabi12 – 16 Oct. 2026, Dubai

COURSE OVERVIEW:

The Electrical Transient Analyzer Program (ETAP) is the industry-standard software for the design, simulation, and operation of complex power systems. This course provides a technical deep dive into the utilization of ETAP for critical network calculations, focusing on the accuracy of "Data Entry" and the interpretation of "Output Reports." Participants will explore the mechanics of "One-Line Diagram" creation, learning how to build a "Digital Twin" of their electrical infrastructure that accurately reflects real-world behavior.

The scope of this training addresses the core modules of ETAP required for daily engineering tasks, including "Load Flow," "Short Circuit," and "Motor Acceleration." It covers the technical nuances of "Protection Coordination," focusing on the visualization of Time-Current Characteristic (TCC) curves and the elimination of "Selectivity" violations. The curriculum provides a detailed focus on "Arc Flash" analysis, ensuring that participants can generate labels and safety boundaries according to the latest IEEE 1584 standards.

Coverage includes the implementation of advanced modules such as "Harmonic Analysis" and "Transient Stability." Attendees will learn to utilize the "Scenario Wizard" to evaluate the grid under "N-1" contingencies and to optimize system performance through "Capacitor Placement" and "Cable Sizing." By combining power system theory with intensive hands-on software exercises, the course equips professionals with the expertise required to conduct high-fidelity electrical studies that meet regulatory and safety requirements.

COURSE OBJECTIVES:

After completion of this course, the participants will be able to:

  • Define the architecture of the ETAP database and "Project Settings."
  • Build a comprehensive "One-Line Diagram" (OLD) with nested subsystems.
  • Execute "Load Flow" analysis and resolve "Voltage Drop" violations.
  • Perform "Short Circuit" studies according to IEC and ANSI standards.
  • Conduct "Arc Flash" hazard analysis and determine "Incident Energy."
  • Create and analyze "Time-Current Characteristic" (TCC) curves for Star-view.
  • Perform "Motor Acceleration" studies (Static and Dynamic).
  • Execute "Cable Sizing" and "Ampacity" calculations within ETAP.
  • Analyze "Harmonic Load Flow" and identify resonance points.
  • Utilize the "Scenario Wizard" for contingency and "What-If" analysis.
  • Perform "Ground Grid" design and "Step/Touch Voltage" calculations.
  • Generate "Professional Engineering Reports" and "Alert Views."

TARGET AUDIENCE:

This course is intended for Power System Engineers, Electrical Consultants, Protection Engineers, and Technical Managers who utilize ETAP for system studies.

TRAINING COURSE METHODOLOGY:

A highly interactive combination of lectures, discussion sessions, and case studies will be employed to maximize the transfer of information, knowledge, and experience. The course will be intensive, practical, and highly interactive. The sessions will start by raising the most relevant questions and motivating everybody to find the right answers. The attendants will also be encouraged to raise more of their questions and to share in developing the right answers using their analysis and experience. There will also be some indoor experiential activities to enhance the learning experience. Course material will be provided in PowerPoint, with necessary animations, learning videos, and general discussions.

The course participants shall be evaluated before, during, and at the end of the course.

COURSE CERTIFICATE:

National Consultant Centre for Training LLC (NCC) will issue an Attendance Certificate to all participants completing a minimum of 80% of the total attendance time requirement.
