Meter Installation, Testing, Calibration, and Efficiency Measures
| 27 Apr. – 01 May 2026, Abu Dhabi | 27 – 31 July 2026, Abu Dhabi |
COURSE OVERVIEW:
In the modern energy landscape, the accuracy of electrical metering is the primary driver of fiscal accountability and system efficiency. This course provides a technical deep dive into the engineering principles of energy measurement, focusing on the installation, calibration, and optimization of power meters. Participants will explore the mechanics of both "Electromechanical" and "Digital Smart Meters," learning how to ensure the integrity of the "Revenue Chain" through precise technical validation.
The scope of this training addresses the physical installation requirements for various metering classes, including CT/VT-operated systems for industrial loads. It covers the technical nuances of "Calibration," focusing on the elimination of errors in the measurement of active (kWh), reactive (kVARh), and apparent (kVAh) power. The curriculum provides a detailed focus on "Efficiency Measures," teaching participants how to utilize high-resolution meter data to identify energy waste, power quality issues, and potential cost savings.
Coverage includes the implementation of rigorous testing protocols to identify "Meter Tampering" and "Wiring Errors" that lead to revenue loss. Attendees will learn to utilize specialized calibration equipment, interpret "Phasor Diagrams" for wiring verification, and manage the communication protocols of "Advanced Metering Infrastructure" (AMI). By combining metrology theory with practical field-based installation and testing, the course equips professionals with the expertise required to maintain a highly accurate and efficient metering network.
COURSE OBJECTIVES:
After completion of this course, the participants will be able to:
- Identify and define the different classes and types of electrical meters.
- Differentiate between "Direct Connect" and "Transformer Rated" metering.
- Install single-phase and three-phase meters with technical precision.
- Perform "Wiring Verification" using phasor analysis and vector diagrams.
- Execute "Meter Calibration" using a high-accuracy portable standard.
- Identify and correct "Ratio" and "Phase Angle" errors in CTs and VTs.
- Utilize meter data to identify "Power Factor" and "Harmonic" inefficiencies.
- Implement "Efficiency Measures" based on high-resolution load profiling.
- Detect signs of "Meter Tampering" and "Energy Theft" techniques.
- Manage the integration of meters into AMR (Automatic Meter Reading) systems.
- Interpret the technical data on "LCD Displays" and "Pulse Outputs."
- Prepare professional calibration reports and energy efficiency audits.
TARGET AUDIENCE:
This course is intended for Metering Technicians, Revenue Protection Officers, Energy Auditors, and Electrical Inspectors.
TRAINING COURSE METHODOLOGY:
A highly interactive combination of lectures, discussion sessions, and case studies will be employed to maximize the transfer of information, knowledge, and experience. The course will be intensive, practical, and highly interactive. The sessions will start by raising the most relevant questions and motivating everybody to find the right answers. The attendants will also be encouraged to raise more of their questions and to share in developing the right answers using their analysis and experience. There will also be some indoor experiential activities to enhance the learning experience. Course material will be provided in PowerPoint, with necessary animations, learning videos, and general discussions.
The course participants shall be evaluated before, during, and at the end of the course.
COURSE CERTIFICATE:
National Consultant Centre for Training LLC (NCC) will issue an Attendance Certificate to all participants completing a minimum of 80% of the total attendance time requirement.
