COURSE OVERVIEW:

High-voltage electrical safety is a multi-dimensional discipline that combines engineering controls, procedural discipline, and behavioral awareness to mitigate life-threatening risks. This course provides a technical foundation for understanding the behavior of electricity at high potential and the specific hazards it poses to the human body and industrial assets. Participants will explore the mechanics of high-energy faults and the rigorous safety standards required to navigate substation and transmission environments.

 

The scope of this training addresses the fundamental principles of protection, including insulation, clearance, and grounding. It covers the technical nuances of arc flash mitigation, the physics of electric fields, and the selection of specialized safety equipment. The curriculum provides a detailed focus on the "Human Element" of safety, teaching participants how to identify "Hazardous Attitudes" and implement the "Hierarchy of Controls" to ensure that high-voltage work remains predictable and safe.

 

Coverage includes the interpretation of safety labeling, the boundaries of approach for energized parts, and the management of induction and stray currents. Attendees will learn to conduct comprehensive site safety audits and develop emergency rescue plans for electrical incidents. By combining technical hazard analysis with practical safety management strategies, the course equips professionals with the expertise required to maintain a safe working environment in the presence of high-voltage energy.

 

COURSE OBJECTIVES:

After completion of this course, the participants will be able to:

  • Define High Voltage (HV) according to international safety standards.
  • Explain the physiological effects of HV electric shock on the human body.
  • Identify the causes and consequences of Arc Flash and Arc Blast.
  • Determine the "Limited," "Restricted," and "Prohibited" approach boundaries.
  • Select and inspect appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
  • Interpret HV safety signs, symbols, and equipment nameplates.
  • Apply the "Hierarchy of Controls" to high-voltage risk management.
  • Execute safe entry and exit procedures for HV substations.
  • Identify the risks of capacitive and inductive coupling in HV lines.
  • Utilize HV "Hot-Sticks" and rescue hooks correctly and safely.
  • Perform a "Point-of-Work" risk assessment for HV tasks.
  • Execute emergency response and rescue protocols for HV victims.

 

TARGET AUDIENCE:

This course is intended for Electrical Technicians, Safety Officers, Project Engineers, and Facility Staff working in the proximity of high-voltage equipment.

 

TRAINING COURSE METHODOLOGY:

A highly interactive combination of lectures, discussion sessions, and case studies will be employed to maximize the transfer of information, knowledge, and experience. The course will be intensive, practical, and highly interactive. The sessions will start by raising the most relevant questions and motivating everybody to find the right answers. The attendants will also be encouraged to raise more of their questions and to share in developing the right answers using their analysis and experience. There will also be some indoor experiential activities to enhance the learning experience. Course material will be provided in PowerPoint, with necessary animations, learning videos, and general discussions.

 

The course participants shall be evaluated before, during, and at the end of the course.

 

COURSE CERTIFICATE:

National Consultant Centre for Training LLC (NCC) will issue an Attendance Certificate to all participants completing a minimum of 80% of the total attendance time requirement.
