Strategy and Action Plan for Transition Toward Carbon Neutral

15 – 19 June 2026, Abu Dhabi05 – 09 Oct. 2026, Abu Dhabi

COURSE OVERVIEW:

The transition toward carbon neutral operations has become a strategic imperative for governments, energy companies, and industrial organisations worldwide. Regulators, investors, customers, and communities increasingly expect clear, credible, and measurable decarbonisation strategies that demonstrate commitment to climate goals while sustaining competitiveness and growth. For many organisations, the key challenge is not the ambition itself, but how to translate that ambition into a realistic, prioritised, and financially viable action plan.

This course provides a structured, practical framework for designing a carbon-neutral strategy and converting it into an implementable action roadmap. Participants will explore fundamental concepts such as greenhouse gas accounting, emissions baselining, and target setting, and then move into more advanced topics, including scenario analysis, decarbonisation levers, technology options, and transition risk management. The course emphasises how to integrate carbon strategy into corporate strategy, capital allocation, and performance management.

Using case studies, exercises, and group work, participants will learn how to identify their main emissions hotspots, evaluate abatement options, and build a portfolio of projects aligned with net zero objectives. The course will also address stakeholder engagement, governance and accountability, reporting and disclosure, and the use of carbon markets and offsets. By the end of the course, participants will be ready to drive the development of a robust strategy and action plan for their own organisation’s transition toward carbon neutrality.

COURSE OBJECTIVES:

After completion of the course, the participants will be able to:

  • Explain the key drivers behind the global transition toward carbon-neutral economies and organisations.
  • Define the main concepts and terminology related to decarbonisation, including net zero, carbon neutral, and climate resilience.
  • Describe the fundamentals of greenhouse gas accounting and distinguish between Scope 1, Scope 2, and Scope 3 emissions.
  • Develop a high level emissions baseline and identify major emissions hotspots within their operations and value chain.
  • Analyse relevant climate, energy, and environmental regulations and voluntary commitments that influence organisational strategy.
  • Evaluate different decarbonisation levers such as energy efficiency, electrification, fuel switching, renewable energy, process optimisation, and carbon capture solutions.
  • Assess the role of carbon markets, offsets, and nature-based solutions within a credible carbon-neutral strategy.
  • Design a carbon-neutral roadmap that links long-term targets with short and medium-term milestones and key performance indicators.
  • Prioritise decarbonisation projects using criteria such as cost, abatement potential, implementation complexity, and strategic alignment.
  • Propose an appropriate governance structure, roles, and responsibilities to drive the transition toward carbon neutrality.
  • Develop an internal and external stakeholder engagement plan to build support for the transition strategy.
  • Prepare a monitoring, reporting, and verification approach aligned with recognised climate and sustainability disclosure practices.
  • Identify major transition risks and opportunities associated with moving toward carbon neutrality and propose risk mitigation actions.
  • Translate the strategic roadmap into a practical implementation and change management plan for their own organisation.

A highly interactive combination of lectures, discussion sessions, and case studies will be employed to maximise the transfer of information, knowledge, and experience. The course will be intensive but practical and highly interactive. The sessions will start by raising the most relevant questions and motivating everybody to find the right answers. The attendants will also be encouraged to raise more of their questions and to share in developing the right answers using their analysis and experience. There will also be some indoor experiential activities to enhance the learning experience. Course material through PowerPoint equipped with necessary animation, learning videos, and general discussions will be provided.

The course participants shall be evaluated before, during, and after the course.

COURSE CERTIFICATE:

National Consultant Centre for Training LLC (NCC) will issue an Attendance Certificate to all participants who complete at least 80% of the total attendance time requirement.
