Real-Time Drilling Optimization and Digital Drilling Operations
| 02 – 06 Feb. 2026, Abu Dhabi | 06 – 10 July 2026, Abu Dhabi |
COURSE OVERVIEW:
Digital transformation is reshaping the drilling industry by enabling real time optimization that reduces nonproductive time and improves wellbore quality. This course provides a comprehensive look at the technologies and workflows that drive high performance drilling operations in the modern era. Participants will explore the use of real time data streams, automated rig systems, and advanced analytics to optimize Rate of Penetration (ROP) and ensure mechanical integrity.
The scope of the training covers the integration of surface and downhole sensors with "Digital Twins" and physical models to predict and mitigate drilling dysfunctions. Detailed focus is given to the management of "Real Time Operations Centers" (RTOC) and the collaboration between the rig site and office based teams. By mastering the use of digital tools, drilling engineers can proactively manage vibration, stick slip, and pressure fluctuations before they lead to tool failure or well control incidents.
Coverage also includes the application of Machine Learning and AI in drilling performance benchmarking and automated reporting. The course highlights the importance of data quality and standardized communication protocols (such as WITSML) in creating a seamless digital workflow. Through case studies of digital drilling successes, participants will learn how to implement an optimization strategy that delivers wells faster, safer, and at a lower total cost.
COURSE OBJECTIVES:
After completion of this course, the participants will be able to:
- Identify the key components of a digital drilling ecosystem.
- Utilize real time data streams to optimize ROP and drilling efficiency.
- Detect and mitigate drilling dysfunctions like stick slip and vibrations.
- Apply mechanical specific energy (MSE) concepts for performance monitoring.
- Manage the workflow and communication within a Real Time Operations Center.
- Utilize Digital Twins to predict wellbore behavior and avoid hazards.
- Optimize bit selection and drilling parameters using historical data analytics.
- Implement automated drilling control systems for consistent performance.
- Evaluate the quality and reliability of real time sensor data.
- Improve wellbore placement using real time geosteering and survey tools.
- Reduce non productive time (NPT) through proactive hazard identification.
- Standardize data reporting and communication using WITSML.
- Analyze the ROI of digital drilling investments and technology adoption.
TARGET AUDIENCE:
Drilling Engineers, Operations Managers, Rig Site Supervisors, Data Scientists, and Drilling Optimization Specialists.
TRAINING COURSE METHODOLOGY:
A highly interactive combination of lectures, discussion sessions, and case studies will be employed to maximise the transfer of information, knowledge, and experience. The course will be intensive, practical, and highly interactive. The sessions will start by raising the most relevant questions and motivating everybody to find the right answers. The attendants will also be encouraged to raise more of their questions and to share in developing the right answers using their analysis and experience. There will also be some indoor experiential activities to enhance the learning experience. Course material will be provided in PowerPoint, with necessary animations, learning videos, and general discussions.
The course participants shall be evaluated before, during, and at the end of the course.
COURSE CERTIFICATE:
National Consultant Centre for Training LLC (NCC) will issue an Attendance Certificate to all participants completing a minimum of 80% of the total attendance time requirement.
