Enhanced Oil Recovery (EOR) Pilot Design and Implementation

04 – 08 May 2026, Abu Dhabi03 – 07 Aug. 2026, Abu Dhabi

COURSE OVERVIEW:

Enhanced Oil Recovery (EOR) pilots are essential steps in reducing technical uncertainty, validating reservoir behaviour, and demonstrating the feasibility of full-field EOR deployment. This course provides a comprehensive and practical understanding of designing, planning, executing, and evaluating EOR pilot projects.

Participants will learn the engineering principles behind pilot selection, reservoir screening, laboratory testing, pattern design, injection schemes, surveillance technologies, and data interpretation. The course emphasises structured pilot planning, risk management, cost analysis, and performance assessment techniques that support confident decision-making for scaling EOR to commercial implementation.

Through the integration of real case studies, modelling workflows, and operational best practices, participants will develop the knowledge and skills required to design effective pilots, monitor reservoir response, evaluate outcomes, and optimise pilot-to-field expansion strategies.

COURSE OBJECTIVES:

After completion of the course, the participants will be able to:

  • Understand the purpose and importance of EOR pilot projects.
  • Identify geological and engineering criteria for EOR pilot candidate selection.
  • Evaluate core and fluid data required for EOR screening.
  • Interpret laboratory experiments used to assess EOR feasibility.
  • Develop reservoir models for predicting pilot performance.
  • Design injection patterns, rates, and pilot layout strategies.
  • Select surface and subsurface facilities for EOR pilot operation.
  • Apply surveillance, monitoring, and data acquisition methods.
  • Understand performance indicators and evaluation metrics for EOR pilots.
  • Identify risks, uncertainties, and mitigation techniques during pilot execution.
  • Conduct economic analysis and cost estimation for EOR pilot programs.
  • Interpret results and determine scalability to full-field implementation.
  • Apply integrated project management principles for pilot design and execution.
  • Review global case studies and lessons learned from EOR pilot projects.

TARGET AUDIENCE:

  • Reservoir engineers
  • Petroleum and production engineers
  • EOR project specialists
  • Field development planners
  • Subsurface teams involved in pilot assessment
  • Laboratory engineers and PVT specialists
  • Technical managers and decision-makers

TRAINING COURSE METHODOLOGY:

A highly interactive combination of lectures, discussion sessions, and case studies will be employed to maximise the transfer of information, knowledge, and experience. The course will be intensive, practical, and highly interactive. The sessions will start by raising the most relevant questions and motivating everybody to find the right answers. The attendants will also be encouraged to raise more of their questions and to share in developing the right answers using their analysis and experience. There will also be some indoor experiential activities to enhance the learning experience. Course material will be provided in PowerPoint, with necessary animations, learning videos, and general discussions.

The course participants shall be evaluated before, during, and at the end of the course.

COURSE CERTIFICATE:

National Consultant Centre for Training LLC (NCC) will issue an Attendance Certificate to all participants completing a minimum of 80% of the total attendance time requirement.
