Enhance Oil Recovery Methods: Theory and Application

27 Apr. – 01 May 2026, Abu Dhabi27 – 31 July 2026, Abu Dhabi

COURSE OVERVIEW:

Enhanced Oil Recovery (EOR) represents the most advanced phase of hydrocarbon production, targeting the significant volume of oil left behind after primary and secondary recovery. This course provides a comprehensive understanding of the scientific principles, engineering considerations, and field applications of EOR technologies. Participants will explore chemical, thermal, gas-based, and emerging EOR techniques alongside reservoir screening, fluid–rock interactions, laboratory evaluation, economic feasibility, and implementation strategies.

The program covers theoretical foundations and applied engineering required to evaluate, design, and optimize EOR projects. Through detailed modules, real field case studies, and performance analysis workflows, participants will gain the competence needed to assess EOR suitability, select the appropriate technology, and support successful field deployment.

COURSE OBJECTIVES:

After completion of the course, the participants will be able to:

  • Understand the fundamental principles governing enhanced oil recovery.
  • Describe reservoir drive mechanisms and limitations of primary and secondary recovery.
  • Evaluate screening criteria for different EOR methods.
  • Analyse fluid–rock interactions relevant to EOR performance.
  • Understand thermal EOR techniques including steam flooding and in-situ combustion.
  • Evaluate gas injection processes including CO₂, nitrogen, and hydrocarbon gas.
  • Describe chemical EOR methods such as polymer, surfactant, and alkaline flooding.
  • Interpret laboratory experiments used to assess EOR potential.
  • Apply reservoir simulation concepts for EOR design and optimization.
  • Understand pilot testing workflows and scale-up strategies.
  • Conduct economic evaluation and feasibility studies for EOR projects.
  • Identify risks and operational challenges during EOR implementation.
  • Review field case studies to extract best practices and lessons learned.
  • Apply integrated reservoir management principles in EOR projects.

TARGET AUDIENCE:

  • Reservoir engineers
  • Petroleum engineers
  • Production engineers
  • Field development planners
  • Geoscientists involved in reservoir evaluation
  • EOR project coordinators
  • Technical managers supporting long-term recovery improvement

TRAINING COURSE METHODOLOGY:

A highly interactive combination of lectures, discussion sessions, and case studies will be employed to maximise the transfer of information, knowledge, and experience. The course will be intensive, practical, and highly interactive. The sessions will start by raising the most relevant questions and motivating everybody to find the right answers. The attendants will also be encouraged to raise more of their questions and to share in developing the right answers using their analysis and experience. There will also be some indoor experiential activities to enhance the learning experience. Course material will be provided in PowerPoint, with necessary animations, learning videos, and general discussions.

The course participants shall be evaluated before, during, and at the end of the course.

COURSE CERTIFICATE:

National Consultant Centre for Training LLC (NCC) will issue an Attendance Certificate to all participants completing a minimum of 80% of the total attendance time requirement.
