ECLIPSE Black Oil Reservoir Simulation
| 20 – 24 Apr. 2026, Abu Dhabi | 20 – 24 July 2026, Abu Dhabi |
COURSE OVERVIEW:
This course provides participants with a practical introduction to the basic features, structure, and main keywords of the ECLIPSE Black Oil simulator. It focuses on how black oil reservoir simulation fits within the overall reservoir engineering workflow and how to set up, run, and review basic simulation cases using standard ECLIPSE input sections.
The course covers reservoir analysis and characterisation, construction and preparation of rock and fluid data, Petrel-based data import and property modelling, building and exporting simulation grids, setting up fluid and rock physics functions, modelling aquifers, defining development strategies, running simulation cases, performing basic history matching, and preparing prediction scenarios. simulation case and interpret key dynamic outputs to support reservoir management decisions.
COURSE OBJECTIVES:
After completion of this course, the participants will be able to:
- Understand the fundamental principles and structure of the ECLIPSE black-oil simulator.
- Navigate and edit ECLIPSE data files (DATA), understanding the purpose and syntax of key keywords in major sections.
- Construct a simple simulation model from scratch and initialise it correctly.
- Set up well controls, production schedules, and prediction scenarios.
- Run simulations, perform basic quality control on results, and troubleshoot common errors.
TARGET AUDIENCE:
- Reservoir Engineers
- Simulation Engineers
- Geoscientists with a focus on dynamic modelling
- Technical personnel who need to interact with or interpret results from reservoir simulation models.
TRAINING COURSE METHODOLOGY:
A highly interactive combination of lectures and discussion sessions, as well as case studies, will be managed to maximise the amount and quality of information, knowledge, and experience transfer. The course will be intensive, practical, and highly interactive. The sessions will start by raising the most relevant questions and motivating everybody to find the right answers. The attendants will also be encouraged to raise more of their questions and to share in developing the right answers using their analysis and experience. There will also be some indoor experiential activities to enhance learning. Course material will be provided in PowerPoint, with necessary animations, learning videos, and general discussions.
The course participants shall be evaluated before, during, and at the end of the course.
COURSE CERTIFICATE:
National Consultant Centre for Training LLC (NCC) will issue an Attendance Certificate to all participants completing a minimum of 80% of the total attendance time requirement.
