Drilling Project and Risk Management

30 Mar. – 03 Apr. 2026, Abu Dhabi21 – 25 Dec. 2026, Dubai

COURSE OVERVIEW:

Drilling Project and Risk Management is a comprehensive training program designed to equip participants with the technical, managerial, and analytical skills required to plan, execute, and control drilling projects effectively. The course emphasizes structured project planning, budgeting, scheduling, supply chain coordination, contractor management, operational risk identification, and mitigation techniques tailored for drilling operations.

Participants will learn how to integrate engineering, logistical, financial, and HSE considerations into a unified project management framework. The course highlights key project milestones, cost control methods, performance monitoring systems, and risk assessment tools such as HAZOP, HAZID, and QRA.

Real-world drilling failures, NPT analysis, and lessons learned are used extensively to enhance participants’ ability to identify hazards early, prevent operational disruptions, and drive successful project delivery from conceptual planning to well completion.

 COURSE OBJECTIVES:

After completion of the course, the participants will be able to:

  • Understand the fundamentals of drilling project planning and execution.
  • Identify key elements of a drilling project lifecycle.
  • Develop drilling project schedules, budgets, and resource plans.
  • Evaluate drilling project risks using structured risk assessment tools.
  • Apply qualitative and quantitative risk analysis methodologies.
  • Analyse well design components from a project management perspective.
  • Manage drilling contractors, suppliers, and service companies effectively.
  • Monitor drilling performance and identify early warning indicators.
  • Understand cost control strategies and non-productive time management.
  • Conduct HAZID, HAZOP, and risk reviews for drilling projects.
  • Implement operational risk mitigation techniques.
  • Apply project management tools and software in drilling workflows.
  • Examine lessons learned from historical drilling project failures.
  • Enhance communication, reporting, and decision-making within drilling teams.

TARGET AUDIENCE:

  • Drilling engineers
  • Drilling project managers
  • Wellsite supervisors
  • Petroleum engineers are involved in drilling planning
  • HSE and risk management professionals
  • Supply chain and contracting personnel
  • Well operations decision-makers

TRAINING COURSE METHODOLOGY:

A highly interactive combination of lectures, discussion sessions, and case studies will be employed to maximise the transfer of information, knowledge, and experience. The course will be intensive, practical, and highly interactive. The sessions will start by raising the most relevant questions and motivating everybody to find the right answers. The attendants will also be encouraged to raise more of their questions and to share in developing the right answers using their analysis and experience. There will also be some indoor experiential activities to enhance the learning experience. Course material will be provided in PowerPoint, with necessary animations, learning videos, and general discussions.

The course participants shall be evaluated before, during, and at the end of the course.

COURSE CERTIFICATE:
