COURSE OVERVIEW:

Drilling Practice School for New Engineers is designed to provide junior drilling personnel with a comprehensive and practical understanding of drilling operations, equipment, procedures, and field practices. The course builds foundational knowledge required for successful participation in drilling projects, focusing on rig systems, drilling tools, well planning, mud engineering basics, BOP operation, safety practices, and real-time problem-solving.


Participants will develop a strong operational mindset, learning how to interpret drilling programs, monitor drilling parameters, recognize warning signs of downhole problems, and effectively support day-to-day drilling activities. Through detailed modules, interactive discussions, and field-oriented case studies, the course equips new engineers with the technical confidence and operational awareness necessary to contribute effectively to drilling teams.

 

COURSE OBJECTIVES:

After completion of the course, the participants will be able to:

  • Understand the fundamentals of drilling operations and rig systems.
  • Identify key equipment used in rotary drilling and explain their functions.
  • Interpret drilling programs and understand well planning concepts.
  • Recognize different types of drill bits and their applications.
  • Explain drilling mud functions, properties, and basic testing procedures.
  • Understand drill string components and BHA configurations.
  • Describe casing, cementing fundamentals, and wellbore construction sequence.
  • Understand the principles of well control and early kick detection.
  • Monitor drilling parameters and recognize abnormal trends.
  • Identify common drilling problems and apply basic troubleshooting techniques.
  • Understand solids control equipment and mud cleaning operations.
  • Apply HSE standards and rig safety procedures.
  • Interpret basic logging data and formation evaluation indicators.
  • Understand the roles and responsibilities of drilling team members.

TRAINING COURSE METHODOLOGY:

A highly interactive combination of lectures, discussion sessions, and case studies will be employed to maximise the transfer of information, knowledge, and experience. The course will be intensive, practical, and highly interactive. The sessions will start by raising the most relevant questions and motivating everybody to find the right answers. The attendants will also be encouraged to raise more of their questions and to share in developing the right answers using their analysis and experience. There will also be some indoor experiential activities to enhance the learning experience. Course material will be provided in PowerPoint, with necessary animations, learning videos, and general discussions.

 

The course participants shall be evaluated before, during, and at the end of the course.

 

COURSE CERTIFICATE:

National Consultant Centre for Training LLC (NCC) will issue an Attendance Certificate to all participants completing a minimum of 80% of the total attendance time requirement.
