Drill Cuttings Description and Quality Control

COURSE OVERVIEW:
This course focuses on providing geologists and wellsite personnel with comprehensive knowledge and practical skills in drill cuttings description and quality control procedures at the wellsite. Participants will learn how to collect, handle, prepare, and describe drill cuttings, and how to apply quality control measures to ensure accurate, reliable geological information for formation evaluation and well decision making. Emphasis is placed on practical workflows, documentation standards, and coordination with the wider wellsite team.
COURSE OBJECTIVES:
After completion of the course, the participants will be able to:
- Understand the importance of drill cuttings in geologic interpretation and formation evaluation.
- Describe the procedures for collecting, handling, and preparing drill cuttings samples at the wellsite.
- Develop proficiency in visual description and classification of drill cuttings to identify lithology, mineralogy, and hydrocarbon indications.
- Implement quality control measures to ensure the accuracy and reliability of cutting descriptions and related data.
- Explain the principles and practices of drill cuttings storage, preservation, and disposal in line with operational and regulatory requirements.
- Document and communicate cuttings descriptions effectively to support real-time well decisions and post well analysis.

TRAINING COURSE METHODOLOGY:
A highly interactive combination of lectures and discussion sessions, as well as case studies, will be managed to maximize the amount and quality of information, knowledge, and experience transfer. The course will be intensive, practical, and highly interactive. The sessions will start by raising the most relevant questions and motivating everybody to find the right answers. The attendants will also be encouraged to raise more of their questions and to share in developing the right answers using their analysis and experience. There will also be some indoor experiential activities to enhance learning. Course material will be provided in PowerPoint, with necessary animations, learning videos, and general discussions.
The course participants shall be evaluated before, during, and at the end of the course.
COURSE CERTIFICATE:
National Consultant Centre for Training LLC (NCC) will issue an Attendance Certificate to all participants completing a minimum of 80% of the total attendance time requirement.
