Casing and Cementing Design Technology

09 – 13 Feb. 2026, Dubai13 – 17 July 2026, Abu Dhabi

COURSE OVERVIEW:

This comprehensive course provides participants with an in-depth understanding of casing and cementing design principles, engineering considerations, operational practices, and modern technologies used in drilling and well construction. The program covers the full lifecycle of casing and cement design, including load analysis, casing selection criteria, well integrity principles, centralization practices, displacement mechanics, cement slurry design, zonal isolation assurance, and prevention of common cementing failures. Participants will explore industry standards, real operational challenges, and detailed engineering workflows used to ensure safe and efficient casing and cement placement throughout the wellbore.

Through expanded technical modules, attendees gain advanced knowledge of stress analysis, material selection, hydraulic modelling, casing wear estimation, cement sheath evaluation, gas migration control, and cementing best practices for complex wells such as HPHT, deviated, extended reach, and unconventional reservoirs. The course emphasizes practical application, engineering calculations, risk mitigation, and modern technology tools used in planning and executing casing and cementing operations to maintain long-term well integrity.

COURSE OBJECTIVES:

After completion of the course, the participants will be able to:

  • Understand the fundamental engineering concepts of casing and cementing design.
  • Identify critical inputs required for casing string selection and load case development.
  • Perform casing design calculations including burst, collapse, and tension analysis.
  • Evaluate different casing materials, grades, and connections based on well requirements.
  • Analyze wellbore stability factors influencing casing and cementing operations.
  • Design cement slurries suitable for various downhole environments and operational constraints.
  • Apply centralizer placement strategies to ensure uniform cement distribution.
  • Evaluate displacement mechanics and optimize cement placement efficiency.
  • Assess risks related to gas migration and apply mitigation techniques.
  • Interpret cement bond logs and other evaluation tools to verify cement integrity.
  • Plan casing running operations, including torque and drag assessments.
  • Troubleshoot common cementing challenges and design effective contingency measures.
  • Integrate industry standards such as API and ISO into casing and cementing design workflows.
  • Incorporate digital tools and modelling software for enhanced design accuracy.
  • Apply best practices for achieving long-term zonal isolation and well integrity.

TARGET AUDIENCE:

  • Drilling engineers
  • Well design and well integrity engineers
  • Completion and workover engineers
  • Petroleum and reservoir engineers
  • Field supervisors and drilling operations personnel
  • Technical professionals involved in well planning and engineering
  • Anyone seeking advanced knowledge in casing and cementing design technology

TRAINING COURSE METHODOLOGY:

A highly interactive combination of lectures, discussion sessions, and case studies will be employed to maximise the transfer of information, knowledge, and experience. The course will be intensive, practical, and highly interactive. The sessions will start by raising the most relevant questions and motivating everybody to find the right answers. The attendants will also be encouraged to raise more of their questions and to share in developing the right answers using their analysis and experience. There will also be some indoor experiential activities to enhance the learning experience. Course material will be provided in PowerPoint, with necessary animations, learning videos, and general discussions.

The course participants shall be evaluated before, during, and at the end of the course.

COURSE CERTIFICATE:

National Consultant Centre for Training LLC (NCC) will issue an Attendance Certificate to all participants completing a minimum of 80% of the total attendance time requirement.
