Advancing Field Development Planning Towards an Integrative Life Cycle

01 – 05 June 2026, Dubai19 – 23 Oct. 2026, Abu Dhabi

COURSE OVERVIEW:

Field development planning (FDP) is evolving from a traditional, sequential engineering process into a fully integrated life-cycle framework that aligns subsurface understanding, production technology, facility design, economics, environmental stewardship, and long-term asset optimization. This advanced course equips participants with the technical, strategic, and collaborative skills required to design and execute integrative, full-life-cycle field development plans in modern petroleum environments.

Participants will explore the complete workflow from appraisal and concept selection through execution, production optimization, brownfield expansion, and late-life asset management. Emphasis is placed on integrating multidisciplinary inputs (geoscience, reservoir engineering, drilling, completions, production, processing, and economics), applying digital technologies, managing uncertainty, optimizing value, and ensuring environmental and operational sustainability across the entire field life cycle. Real-world case studies from conventional, offshore, tight, and mature fields are used to reinforce practical integrated planning and decision-making.

COURSE OBJECTIVES:

After completion of the course, the participants will be able to:

  • Understand the evolution of FDP from linear workflows to integrated life-cycle decision systems.
  • Apply a multi-disciplinary approach to field development planning and asset management.
  • Evaluate subsurface uncertainties and incorporate them into development scenarios.
  • Design appraisal programs and integrate reservoir characterization into FDP workflows.
  • Optimize well placement, well count, and development sequencing using simulation insights.
  • Integrate drilling, completion, and production constraints into field concepts.
  • Conduct facility planning that supports life-of-field flexibility and expansion.
  • Evaluate EOR and IOR strategies across field life cycles.
  • Integrate cost, risk, and economic performance into decision-making.
  • Apply scenario planning and probabilistic forecasting to field development.
  • Assess environmental impacts, sustainability requirements, and emissions strategies.
  • Apply digital technologies (AI, digital twins, automation) to enhance FDP quality.
  • Prepare integrated FDP documentation and value-based decision-support materials.
  • Implement continuous improvement loops across exploration, development, and mature-field stages.

TARGET AUDIENCE:

  • Reservoir Engineers and Simulation Engineers
  • Geoscientists and Subsurface Teams
  • Drilling, Completion, and Production Engineers
  • Project and Facilities Engineers
  • Technical Managers, Asset Leads, and Development Planners
  • Field Optimization and Integrated Operations Teams
  • Professionals engaged in field development and life-cycle planning

TRAINING COURSE METHODOLOGY

A highly interactive combination of lectures, discussion sessions, and case studies will be employed to maximise the transfer of information, knowledge, and experience. The course will be intensive, practical, and highly interactive. The sessions will start by raising the most relevant questions and motivating everybody to find the right answers. The attendants will also be encouraged to raise more of their questions and to share in developing the right answers using their analysis and experience. There will also be some indoor experiential activities to enhance the learning experience. Course material will be provided in PowerPoint, with necessary animations, learning videos, and general discussions.

The course participants shall be evaluated before, during, and at the end of the course.

COURSE CERTIFICATE

National Consultant Centre for Training LLC (NCC) will issue an Attendance Certificate to all participants completing a minimum of 80% of the total attendance time requirement.
