Advanced Geosteering

20 – 24 Apr. 2026, Dubai14 – 18 Sep. 2026, Abu Dhabi

COURSE OVERVIEW:

Advanced geosteering integrates real-time measurements, geological modelling, drilling analytics, and directional steering technologies to keep wells within optimal reservoir zones and maximize hydrocarbon recovery. This course equips participants with high-level technical and operational expertise needed to execute geosteering in complex reservoirs, including thin targets, highly heterogeneous formations, structurally uncertain environments, and unconventional resource plays.

Participants will gain a deep understanding of geologic modelling, petrophysical interpretation, LWD/MWD tool responses, stratigraphic steering, reservoir navigation, uncertainty workflows, geomechanics influences, and automated geosteering systems. The course emphasizes multidisciplinary collaboration between geology, petrophysics, drilling engineering, directional drilling, and real-time operations centers. Real-field case studies and practical workflows demonstrate best practices for steering high-value horizontal and multilateral wells with precision and efficiency.

COURSE OBJECTIVES:

After completion of the course, the participants will be able to:

  • Understand advanced geosteering principles and their application in complex reservoirs.
  • Interpret real-time LWD/MWD data to make high-confidence steering decisions.
  • Build and update geological and structural models during drilling.
  • Identify formation tops, lithology changes, and key reservoir markers in real time.
  • Apply advanced stratigraphic, structural, and reservoir-based steering strategies.
  • Integrate petrophysical interpretation with geosteering decisions.
  • Navigate thin reservoirs, dipping beds, and faulted or fractured zones.
  • Optimize well placement using geosteering analytics and automation tools.
  • Manage uncertainty and adjust well trajectory using real-time model updates.
  • Understand the geomechanics influences on wellbore placement and drilling stability.
  • Utilize 3D visualization, geomodel integration, and real-time mapping platforms.
  • Collaborate effectively with directional drillers and RTOC for coordinated execution.
  • Incorporate geosteering workflows into horizontal, multilateral, and unconventional drilling programs.
  • Conduct post-well evaluations and improve future geosteering performance.

TARGET AUDIENCE:

  • Geosteering Specialists
  • Reservoir and Operations Geologists
  • Petrophysicists
  • Drilling and Directional Drilling Engineers
  • Real-Time Operations Center (RTOC) Personnel
  • Geomodellers and Subsurface Engineers
  • Professionals advancing into high-level geosteering workflows

TRAINING COURSE METHODOLOGY

A highly interactive combination of lectures, discussion sessions, and case studies will be employed to maximise the transfer of information, knowledge, and experience. The course will be intensive, practical, and highly interactive. The sessions will start by raising the most relevant questions and motivating everybody to find the right answers. The attendants will also be encouraged to raise more of their questions and to share in developing the right answers using their analysis and experience. There will also be some indoor experiential activities to enhance the learning experience. Course material will be provided in PowerPoint, with necessary animations, learning videos, and general discussions.

The course participants shall be evaluated before, during, and at the end of the course.

COURSE CERTIFICATE

National Consultant Centre for Training LLC (NCC) will issue an Attendance Certificate to all participants completing a minimum of 80% of the total attendance time requirement.
