Tank Farm Integrity Program: Bunds, Piping, Overfill and Fire Protection Interfaces

06 – 10 Apr. 2026, Cairo31 Aug. – 04 Sep. 2026, Abu Dhabi

COURSE OVERVIEW:

The integrity of a tank farm extends far beyond the walls of the storage tanks themselves; it involves a complex ecosystem of secondary containment, interconnecting piping, and emergency response systems. This course provides a holistic approach to managing the integrity of the entire tank farm facility to prevent environmental disasters and operational disruptions. By understanding the interfaces between various protective systems, operators can ensure a comprehensive defense against product loss.

The scope of this training involves the assessment of bund (dike) wall integrity and the permeability of containment floors. Participants will learn about the unique corrosion challenges faced by tank farm piping, including those in buried or semi-buried service. We will explore the critical role of overfill protection systems and how they must be integrated with the overall plant instrumentation and emergency shutdown logic.

Coverage includes the maintenance and inspection of fire protection interfaces, such as foam systems, cooling rings, and firewater networks. The curriculum addresses the regulatory requirements for spill prevention and the technical standards for ensuring that secondary containment will hold up under catastrophic tank failure conditions. By completing this program, delegates will be able to implement an integrated integrity program that protects the assets, the environment, and the facility’s reputation.

COURSE OBJECTIVES:

After completion of this course, the participants will be able to:

  • Identify the key components and interfaces of a modern tank farm integrity program.
  • Evaluate the structural integrity and permeability of bund walls and dikes.
  • Inspect interconnecting piping for corrosion, vibration, and support issues.
  • Understand the requirements of API 2350 for overfill protection of storage tanks.
  • Assess the functionality of tank venting systems and flame arrestors.
  • Manage the integrity of secondary containment liners and drainage systems.
  • Verify the readiness of fire protection systems including foam and water spray.
  • Coordinate the maintenance of cathodic protection systems for buried farm piping.
  • Develop spill prevention and response plans aligned with environmental regulations.
  • Perform risk assessments for tank farm operations and potential failure scenarios.
  • Implement a systematic inspection program for all peripheral tank farm assets.
  • Integrate instrumentation and control logic into the overfill prevention strategy.

TARGET AUDIENCE:

This course is intended for Tank Farm Managers, Operations Supervisors, Maintenance Engineers, Environmental Compliance Officers, and Fire Safety Personnel.

TRAINING COURSE METHODOLOGY:

A highly interactive combination of lectures, discussion sessions, and case studies will be employed to maximize the transfer of information, knowledge, and experience. The course will be intensive, practical, and highly interactive. The sessions will start by raising the most relevant questions and motivating everybody to find the right answers. The attendants will also be encouraged to raise more of their questions and to share in developing the right answers using their analysis and experience. There will also be some indoor experiential activities to enhance the learning experience. Course material will be provided in PowerPoint, with necessary animations, learning videos, and general discussions.

The course participants shall be evaluated before, during, and at the end of the course.

COURSE CERTIFICATE:

National Consultant Centre for Training LLC (NCC) will issue an Attendance Certificate to all participants completing a minimum of 80% of the total attendance time requirement.
