Application of Standards in Boiler, Pressure Vessel and Piping Codes
| 01 – 05 June 2026, Dubai | 19 – 23 Oct. 2026, Abu Dhabi |
COURSE OVERVIEW:
The application of standards in the design, fabrication, and maintenance of boilers, pressure vessels, and piping systems is the cornerstone of industrial safety and regulatory compliance. This course provides a comprehensive exploration of the major international codes, primarily focusing on the ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code and the ASME B31 series for pressure piping. By understanding the hierarchy and interrelationship of these standards, engineers and inspectors can ensure that equipment is built and maintained to withstand the rigorous demands of modern process environments.
The scope of this training extends from the initial selection of materials and design formulas to the requirements for fabrication, welding, and non-destructive examination. Participants will learn how to navigate complex code sections to find specific mandates for wall thickness, reinforcement, and pressure testing. The curriculum emphasizes the transition from construction codes to post-construction standards, providing a clear roadmap for managing assets from the workshop floor to the end of their operational life.
Coverage includes the historical context of code development, the role of the Authorized Inspector, and the legal implications of code compliance in various jurisdictions. The course also addresses the integration of various standards, such as API and ASTM, into the primary pressure equipment codes. By mastering the application of these standards, professionals will be able to mitigate the risks of catastrophic failure and ensure the long-term reliability of critical energy and chemical infrastructure.
COURSE OBJECTIVES:
After completion of this course, the participants will be able to:
- Identify the primary sections and appendices of the ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code.
- Differentiate between the design philosophies of ASME Section VIII Division 1 and Division 2.
- Calculate the minimum required wall thickness for cylindrical shells and various head types.
- Interpret the requirements for nozzle reinforcement and opening compensation in vessels.
- Apply the rules of ASME B31.3 for the design and inspection of process piping systems.
- Select appropriate materials for pressure service based on temperature and chemical compatibility.
- Understand the role of ASTM standards in the procurement and testing of raw materials.
- Evaluate the requirements for preheating and post-weld heat treatment in carbon steels.
- Determine the necessity and parameters for hydrostatic and pneumatic pressure tests.
- Navigate the requirements of ASME Section IX for welding and brazing qualifications.
- Apply ASME Section V standards for the execution of non-destructive examinations.
- Coordinate with third-party inspection agencies to ensure code-compliant stamped documents.
- Manage the documentation and certification requirements for pressure equipment data reports.
TARGET AUDIENCE:
This training is designed for design engineers, plant inspectors, quality assurance managers, maintenance supervisors, and procurement specialists involved in the lifecycle management of pressure equipment.
TRAINING COURSE METHODOLOGY:
A highly interactive combination of lectures, discussion sessions, and case studies will be employed to maximise the transfer of information, knowledge, and experience. The course will be intensive, practical, and highly interactive. The sessions will start by raising the most relevant questions and motivating everybody to find the right answers. The attendants will also be encouraged to raise more of their questions and to share in developing the right answers using their analysis and experience. There will also be some indoor experiential activities to enhance the learning experience. Course material will be provided in PowerPoint, with necessary animations, learning videos, and general discussions.
The course participants shall be evaluated before, during, and at the end of the course.
COURSE CERTIFICATE:
The National Consultant Centre for Training LLC (NCC) will issue an Attendance Certificate to all participants who complete a minimum of 80% of the total attendance time requirement.
