API 653 Tank Inspector Exam Preparation Training
| 06 – 10 Apr. 2026, Cairo | 31 Aug. – 04 Sep. 2026, Abu Dhabi |
COURSE OVERVIEW:
The API 653 Tank Inspector Exam Preparation Training is a specialized program designed to provide inspection professionals with the comprehensive technical knowledge required to achieve American Petroleum Institute certification. This course focuses on the detailed requirements of the API 653 code, which governs the inspection, repair, alteration, and reconstruction of atmospheric storage tanks. It serves as a critical professional development path for those responsible for the safety and integrity of large-scale storage assets in the energy sector.
The scope of this training involves an in-depth study of the API 653 standard and its essential reference codes, including API 650 for tank design and ASME Section VIII for pressure components. Participants will master the complex calculations required for tank shell integrity, floor thickness evaluation, and settlement analysis. The curriculum is meticulously structured to cover the "Body of Knowledge" defined by API, including welding qualifications (ASME Section IX) and non-destructive examination procedures (ASME Section V), ensuring a well-rounded technical foundation.
Coverage includes rigorous practice with exam-style questions, time management strategies, and techniques for efficiently navigating the code books during the examination. The course addresses real-world inspection scenarios, from identifying critical damage mechanisms like soil-side corrosion to approving major structural alterations. By successfully completing this training, participants will be prepared to demonstrate their competency as authorized inspectors, capable of ensuring that storage tanks are maintained in compliance with global industry standards.
COURSE OBJECTIVES:
After completion of this course, the participants will be able to:
- Navigate the API 653 standard and related reference codes efficiently.
- Calculate the minimum required thickness for tank shells for continued service.
- Evaluate tank floor integrity using scanning data and statistical analysis.
- Interpret the results of tank settlement surveys and determine structural impacts.
- Design repair procedures for tank bottoms and shell components.
- Determine the requirements for tank reconstruction and relocation.
- Assess the risk of brittle fracture for existing storage tanks.
- Review and approve welding procedure specifications (WPS) for tank repairs.
- Select the appropriate NDE methods for various tank inspection tasks.
- Calculate the remaining life and next inspection date for storage assets.
- Manage the documentation and certification requirements for tank audits.
- Execute the technical requirements of the API "Body of Knowledge."
- Apply exam strategies to complete the API 653 certification.
TARGET AUDIENCE:
This training is specifically tailored for tank inspectors, QA/QC personnel, maintenance engineers, and asset integrity professionals seeking to obtain the API 653 certification.
TRAINING COURSE METHODOLOGY:
A highly interactive combination of lectures, discussion sessions, and case studies will be employed to maximise the transfer of information, knowledge, and experience. The course will be intensive, practical, and highly interactive. The sessions will start by raising the most relevant questions and motivating everybody to find the right answers. The attendants will also be encouraged to raise more of their questions and to share in developing the right answers using their analysis and experience. There will also be some indoor experiential activities to enhance the learning experience. Course material will be provided in PowerPoint, with necessary animations, learning videos, and general discussions.
The course participants shall be evaluated before, during, and at the end of the course.
COURSE CERTIFICATE:
National Consultant Centre for Training LLC (NCC) will issue an Attendance Certificate to all participants completing a minimum of 80% of the total attendance time requirement.
