Course Objectives:
By the end of this training, participants will be able to:
1. Introduction to Well Control in Completion, Workover, and Intervention
- Understand the importance of well control during completion, workover, and intervention operations.
- Identify different well control scenarios specific to completion and workover activities.
- Learn the differences between drilling well control and completion/intervention well control.
2. Well Pressure Control Fundamentals
- Understand wellbore pressure concepts, including:
- Hydrostatic, formation, and surface pressures.
- Primary, secondary, and tertiary well control principles.
- Learn about pressure control techniques used in completions and interventions.
3. Well Control Equipment for Completion and Workover
- Understand the function and operation of key well control equipment:
- Blowout Preventers (BOPs) for completion and workover rigs.
- Lubricators and wireline pressure control equipment.
- Surface and subsurface safety valves (SSSVs).
- Coiled tubing and snubbing unit pressure control systems.
4. Well Control During Completion Operations
- Learn about well control considerations for:
- Running and setting production tubing and packers.
- Installing subsurface safety valves (SSSVs).
- Circulating out gas or kicks in completion fluids.
- Understand well control risks associated with reservoir inflow, kill-weight fluids, and dry gas reservoirs.
5. Well Control in Workover and Well Intervention Operations
- Implement well control procedures for:
- Wireline operations (slickline and e-line interventions).
- Coiled tubing interventions (fluid displacement, nitrogen kick control).
- Snubbing operations in live wells.
- Gas lift valve changeouts and production string replacements.
- Learn about lubricator pressure control and bleed-down procedures.
6. Kick Detection, Well Shut-In, and Kill Methods
- Recognize early warning signs of an influx or well control issue.
- Learn well shut-in procedures for workover and intervention operations.
- Implement kill methods, including:
- Bullheading.
- Volumetric control.
- Circulating methods (driller’s method, wait and weight, reverse circulation).
7. Safety, Regulatory Compliance, and Best Practices
- Understand API, IADC, and IWCF well control standards.
- Implement HSE best practices for well control.
- Learn about emergency response plans and risk mitigation strategies.
8. Case Studies and Troubleshooting Techniques
