Structural Geology and Tectonics

07 – 11 July 2025Abu Dhabi27 – 31 Oct. 2025Dubai08 – 12 Dec. 2025Abu Dhabi

Course Objectives:

By the end of this course, participants will be able to:

  1. Understand Key Concepts in Structural Geology
    • Gain an understanding of rock deformation, faults, folds, and stress/strain relationships.
  2. Understand Plate Tectonics and Its Impact on Earth’s Surface
    • Learn how plate movements shape the Earth’s crust and produce significant geological features such as mountains, earthquakes, and rift zones.
  3. Apply Structural Geology Techniques
    • Use field methods and tools to measure and analyze structural features and tectonic settings.
  4. Interpret Regional Structural Features
    • Identify and analyze tectonic features and processes in regional structural settings (e.g., mountain belts, oceanic ridges).
  5. Integrate Structural Geology in Applied Settings
    • Apply knowledge of structural geology in exploration, resource management, and understanding landform evolution.

Who Should Attend:

This course is ideal for:

  1. Geologists: Professionals working in structural geology, tectonics, or geological mapping who want to improve their understanding of plate tectonics and rock deformation.
  2. Exploration Geophysicists: Geophysicists interested in integrating structural geology with geophysical data to improve subsurface understanding.
  3. Petroleum Engineers: Engineers involved in oil and gas exploration who need to understand how tectonics and structural geology influence hydrocarbon reservoirs.
  4. Mining Engineers: Engineers working with mineral exploration and extraction who need knowledge of the geological structures affecting ore deposits.
  5. Civil Engineers and Architects: Professionals involved in construction, particularly those working in regions affected by seismic activity or complex geological conditions.
  6. Geotechnical Engineers: Engineers assessing land stability and tectonic risks for infrastructure projects.
