07 – 11 July 2025Abu Dhabi01 – 05 Sep. 2025Dubai03 – 07 Nov. 2025Abu Dhabi

Learning Objectives

Upon successful completion of this course, participants will be able to:

1. Overview of Oilfield Processes

  • Understand the key stages in upstream oilfield operations:
    • Well drilling and completion.
    • Well testing and production startup.
    • Hydrocarbon separation and treatment.
    • Transportation and storage.
  • Learn about different types of oilfield reservoirs (conventional vs. unconventional).

2. Wellhead and Subsurface Equipment

  • Identify major components of a wellhead system (Christmas tree, choke valves, casing, tubing).
  • Understand subsurface equipment such as packers, gas lift valves, and sand control systems.
  • Learn about wellbore integrity management and pressure control systems.

3. Oil, Gas, and Water Separation Processes

  • Study three-phase separation principles (oil, gas, water).
  • Understand separator types (horizontal, vertical, spherical, free-water knockouts).
  • Learn about separator performance optimization and troubleshooting.

4. Artificial Lift Systems and Production Enhancement

  • Understand the need for artificial lift in depleted reservoirs.
  • Compare different artificial lift methods:
    • Electric Submersible Pumps (ESP).
    • Gas Lift Systems.
    • Sucker Rod Pumps (Beam Pumps).
    • Progressing Cavity Pumps (PCP).
    • Hydraulic Lift Systems.
  • Select appropriate artificial lift methods based on well conditions.

5. Flow Assurance and Production Optimization

  • Study common flow assurance challenges (paraffin, asphaltenes, hydrates, emulsion, scaling, corrosion).
  • Implement chemical treatment strategies for flow assurance.
  • Use pigging and pipeline integrity monitoring techniques.

6. Oilfield Surface Processing Equipment

  • Understand crude oil dehydration and desalting processes.
  • Learn about gas compression and dehydration systems.
  • Study water treatment and reinjection processes.

7. Storage and Transportation of Hydrocarbons

  • Learn about tank farms, floating roof tanks, and pipeline transportation.
  • Implement vapor recovery systems (VRU) and safety measures for storage.
  • Study pipeline integrity monitoring and leak detection systems.

8. Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) Considerations

  • Follow best practices for process safety management (PSM).
  • Ensure compliance with API, OSHA, EPA, and industry regulations.
  • Implement emergency response procedures for oilfield equipment failures.

9. Troubleshooting and Case Studies

  • Identify common oilfield equipment failures and corrective actions.
  • Review case studies of operational challenges and solutions in oilfield processes.
  • Participate in hands-on troubleshooting exercises using real-world data.
